The three did not recieve much protection or supervision as children and were largely left to their own devices. Despite this, only one attempt was made at kidnapping the (then) heir. In 1970 a man broke a locked gate leading into the palace gardens and attempted to lead Eric into his car. As they neared the gate a palace guard noticed the man and he was arrested.
After Llywelyn VIII's death in February of 2007, King Eric was coronated at Caerwydn Castle on the 13th of May, that same year. following a long campaign by the Traditionalist Party. A repeal of these laws was attempted in 2020 but ultimately failed.
