Music Research Project is a weekly music show which has aired on MBS Two since the mid 90s. It is designed to appeal to youth audiences and highlight both popular music acts and new arrivals on the music scenes. Music Research Project traces its origins back to Music Review, a series which aired on MBS One between 1961 and 1990.
It has a fierce competition with Music Showcase and Weekly Music Countdown.
History
After the cancellation of Music Review due to financial problems, Malgravean Broadcasting Service had no dedicated music programming for a few years and the broadcaster struggled to retain younger audience members. With MBS being purchased by Social Solidarity Investment Fund (SSIF) the company had new resources to attempt to claw-back these lost viewers, and work was started to find a suitable replacement show for Music Review.
It was decided that a fresh rebrand was needed to both distance themselves from the Socialist Republic and create a new sense of energy around the show. Music Research Project was settled upon as the name of the new project, and the series was started in 1995 with episodes being broadcast on a Saturday.
Music Research Project has been credited with helping launch the career of Aurora Tea and Conscript Energy during segments on unconventional sounds. Over the years Music Research Project has had a few famous hosts, although, they tend to prefer picking stars from Rensk such as Kim Hye-jin and Rhee Chae-Yeong.
Global Music Research Project
In 2012 Music Research Project started to host bi-annual tours outside of Malgrave called the Global Music Research Project. The Global Music Research Project features a variety of popular, upcoming and unconventional artists from Malgrave and the particular host country and is designed to raise awareness of different forms of music while providing entertainment to fans.
It has been credited with an increase in popularity of Dornalian, Breheimian, Silverdalean and historically a few Nefreedian talents in Malgrave.
