The "year zero" in this system was based on the Human Admission Treaty, which saw the Human Expansion and the Galactic Union make peace. 800 AHT marked the year the Human Expansion merge with the Galactic Union.

Since the creation of the Galactic calendar, most systems in the known galaxy utilize it to denote historical events and research.

The current year in the Galactic calendar is 3024 AHT (its equivalent in the calendar of Iearth is 5808 AD).
