Bahia

Bahia or Mangodo is a region in northeastern Coius. It includes the countries of Heja, Petite-Corne, and usually Iyakasar and Saubiya. Large parts of it were raided for slaves by mostly Euclean and Asterian powers historically, along with neighbouring regions such as Badawiya and even Negara. To its south is Negara, to its north is Badawiya, to its west is other parts of Badawiya, Ahnurvey and Darshistan, and to its east is the Vehemens Ocean. The area was conquered by colonial powers (such as Gaullica, Estmere and Raglan) from around the late 19th century to the early 20th. Today, the region is one of the least developed in the world, but both its population and level of development are rapidly growing. Bahians are known for having some of the darkest skin in the world, due to their proximity to the sunny equator. The largest and most populous country in Bahia is Heja.

Name

The name "Bahia" comes from the name given to the region by Lusitan explorers and traders, "Bahía de los Negros", meaning "Bay of the Blacks" or "Coast of the Blacks", referring to the black skin of the inhabitants. This was widely adopted as simply "Bahia".

However, Mangodo is a popular alternative name, referring to the same region but promoted by local governments as a native name. While it has a long history of usage in Adovizan, the name's modern form ultimately comes from Kishaghbi, which took the Zaaguopi word "Ngóȯdó" meaning "land" and appended the collective and loanword prefix "ma". It is thus understood to mean "the lands", which by extension became understood throughout Bahia as a name for the region. It only became popular in recent decades with government promotion of it, espousing decolonisation and pan-Bahianism in place of Euclean, Eastern influence. Template:Kylaris
