King Eric Meirion is the __st king of the Gifftan, he was coronated on the 13th of May, 1988 after his father passed away in February of the same year.
He was born on the 13th of October, 1963 and is the eldest of three children. He has one brother, Robert, and one sister, Bethan. The three did not recieve much protection or supervision as children and were largely left to their own devices. Despite this, only one attempt was made at kidnapping the (then) heir. In 1970 a man broke a locked gate leading into the palace gardens and attempted to lead Eric into his car. As they neared the gate a palace guard noticed the man and he was arrested. Eric attended a local secondary school and excelled in science and languages. He studied Gifftanian-language at the university of Caerwydn and was part of the university's boxing team. It was at university he met his wife, Ilsa, whom he married in 1986.
After Llywelyn VIII's death in February of 1988, King Eric was coronated at Caerwydn Castle on the 13th of May, that same year. King Eric has overseen much change during his reign, most notably the banning of the internet in 1993, and then of mobile phones in 1995 following a long campaign by the Traditionalist Party. A repeal of these laws was attempted in 2019 but ultimately failed. King Eric is a noted enviromentalist, and conserver of historic architecture. He has endorsed many projects that promote the conservation of natural beauty, and clean energy sources--such as the Pwllrhos Dam. He has also backed many projects to save historically-significant buildings from ruin or demolition.
