Rwizikuru has a two-tier division of administrative divisions: provinces being the first-level administrative divisions, and local government areas being the second-level administrative divisions.
Provinces
Rwizikuru is officially divided into six provinces (Rwizi: mapurovhinzi, sing. purovhinzi) and one district (Rwizi: dunhu), since the promulgation of the 2020 Rwizikuran constitution. The provinces are run by a governor (Rwizi: mubati) who is appointed by the reigning monarch and serves at His Majesty's pleasure. The newest district is Gutaguru, established in 1978.
Both provinces and districts have very limited powers, with the Rwizikuran constitution that the provinces will only receive powers delegated to the provinces by law. Despite this, the provinces have legislatures and are headed by provincial governors.

Local government areas
Below the provinces are local government areas, commonly shortened to LGAs (Rwizi: nzvimbo dzehurumende dzenzvimbo, NDD). The local government areas were first established in 1911 under colonial rule to help govern the colony more efficiently. Today, the powers of the local government areas in Rwizikuru are equivalent to those of cities or counties in other parts of the world.
As of 2023, there are 280 local government areas in Rwizikuru, with a median population of 138,941 as of the 2021 census.
