Worldfire is a Mascyllary historical fictional drama series developed and crafted by Ulrich Weber, David Gensicke, and Frank Herding, based on the 1998 novel Red and Blue and the short stories Able Archer and Guardian by Joseph Gesden. It was produced by Elpian for a season in 2017, thereafter canceling it and Prism picking it up for an continuation of the now "original series".
The series is set amidst the nuclear high-tide confrontation between the People's State of Hytekojuznia and Mascylla during the Great Game in the 1970s. The story revolves around a disparate group pf politicians, freelancers, and civilians, Mascyllary trade minister Jonas Wieser (played by Erich Dünge), Hytekojuznik diplomat Linus Vijasa (Pesze Luvin), nuclear physicist Kathrine Göhren (Rebecca Nielsen), and AN delegate Herbert Werand (David Weiß), dealing with the threat of war and trying to prevent nuclear armageddon through every means possible, unraveling and maneuvering conspiracies, lies, and betrayal in both governments, putting the fragile peace and the survival of humanity alltogether at stake.
Worldfire has frequently received acclaim by critics, highlighting its political narrative, character development, and multiple, intertwined story lines. The pilot episode aired on 3 August 2017, and Elpian, its original producer, ordered a ten-episode season which was released in late January. Prism shortly after picked up the series production, with another ten episodes premiered in August 2018. On March 27, Prism renewed Worldfire for a feature-length eleven-episode long third season.
