Arideo, officially the Third Kingdom of Arideo (Aridite: Tria Reĝlando de Arideo), is a sovereign state located on the continent of Lira, Greater Olympus.

History

Pre-Royals (?? - 1253)

• People settle the area like 7 billion years before not!christ (probably a lot later, but people wander into the area is the point i'm trying to make here)
• Because there are no natural resources in the area, other than farmlands and forests, it takes a while for people to develop anything more advanced than stone tools
• In the meantime, the area is filled with a large number of tribes
  • Some of these tribes' leaders start thinking "what if i were to make this land my family's instead of having some strangers choose who takes it over after i die"
  • Thus, the first families are born
• Eventually the area is split between 55 families. Most of them are at perpetual war with one another over any and all reasons
• In 1208, Damien Lanchester rises to power in the Lanchester family
  • His ambition is to unite the Aridite families under his banner
• Between 1211 and 1247, Damien is able to take many of the families of the west under his wing
  • He declares the Duchy of Lanchester in 1253, ending the Pre-Royal Era

Rise of House Lanchester (1253 - 1628)

• Damien Lanchester passes away in 1258 after years of being bedridden. Shortly after his death, many of the families he had forced into his duchy secede
• His replacement, Travis Lanchester, vows to finish the job his father started
• He 'does' re-conquer the families that seceded, but then he is assassinated by one of the "loyal" families in 1276
• Despite that family's attempts to seize the throne, they are all executed on the personal order of Bermont Lanchester in 1277
• During the power struggles, more families secede
• Bermont decides to abandon his predecessors' ambition of uniting the Aridite families, instead focusing on uniting the 17 families still loyal to his family
• This doctrine lasts for about 2 centuries, and the status quo in the Aridite region doesn't change by any noticeable degree
  • Some coalitions form in an attempt at conquering all the 55 families, but they quickly fall apart to infighting over who will lead the coalition
• In 1616, Travis IV Lanchester rises to power in the duchy after Damien II drowns in a visit to Lake Reĝo Murdisto
• He vows to unite all the 55 families
  • Like, for real this time

• He actually makes some progress towards this goal, and by 1622, 31 of the 55 families have either been forced under his banner or have joined up willingly
• This upsets some people in the east, who prefer not answering to a higher power
• So they band together under House Avlaventura in the Coalition of the Free Families and thus end up answering to a higher power
  • Ironic isn't it?
• Anyway, what families haven't joined either side by this point are either conquered by the Duchy or by the CFF.
  • It became clear to everyone a war between the two was coming
    • The question was who would strike first
      • The answer came in mid-1625.

Great Avlaventura-Lanchester War

• Travis IV gathers some troops and raids some border villages
  • During the raids, a third of the troops gets lost and wanders off
    • Said troops stumble upon the city of Drakneir which they lay siege to
      • Avlaventuran forces arrive to back up the defenders, and the 1st Battle of Drakneir ends with the duchy forces shattered
        • The CFF declares war on the duchy as a result of this
• Due to infighting in both sides (as most families want to focus on protecting their own lands and thus refuses to contribute) the war turns into a stalemate quickly
  • The stalemate lasts until June 23, 1627, when Travis IV finally snaps and orders all families under the duchy to gather a force and march on the CFF
    • Said army rapidly progresses through CFF lands looting and burning everything they come across
• The CFF gathers an army in response, but even with that they are still outnumbered three to one
  • The two forces meet in the 2nd Battle of Drakneir, which will become the decisive battle of the war
• Zachary of the House de Solaria is assigned to lead the CFF forces
  • Knowing that the duchy forces suffer from the same problem as his forces (each family has their own commander), he devises a plan to attack each army separately
    • The plan works well, and although the CFF suffers heavy losses (and Zachary is killed in the fighting), the CFF emerges victorious
• After the battle, the remains of the CFF forces march on duchy land
  • They crush a hastily arranged militia at the Battle of Resouvir, and the remnants of the duchy army at the Battle of Aglesa
• The duchy eventually surrenders on the 15th of November, 1628, and is completely annexed by the CFF

Olympic Wars (1905 - 1926)

• Arideo ends up under the poorduz somehow. Probably retain a high level of independence though, since it would probably be more trouble than it is worth to disband all of the families and reform the government

Transition Period (1925 - 1926)

• Since there is no proper government to replace the poorduz one, the victors in the treaty set up territories that they will govern
  • Unrest forces them to start laying down the foundation for an Aridite government
    • A constitutional monarchy is decided upon, and in 1926, it is officially founded

Second Aridite Kingdom (1926 - 1935)

On February 2, 1926, the Transition Period came to an end, with the Constitutional Kingdom of Arideo replacing the Aridite Territories and becoming the official government of the region. The first election is held on March 1, and the Aridite Freedom Party secures a majority in the parliament. Between 1926 and 1930 most of the government agencies are set up, many of which remain in use today.

However, shortly before the second elections in 1930, the AFP breaks up entirely, and the news of the breakup does not spread fast enough to prevent millions of voters to vote for a defunct party, meaning around 55% of voters' votes are discarded, and a pro-monarchy party (Royal Solutions Party) is able to secure a majority government with a coalition.

At the third election in 1934 the RSP is able to gain a majority of votes, and thus dissolves the coalition they're leading in favour of leading on their own. RSP introduces several laws aimed at granting more power to the party leader, Alexandra Silvestro. On March 28, a law is introduced and passed in the parliament that grants the Prime Minister the option to skip the parliament and directly instate any laws they see fit. Massive protests break out over this, and although the initial response is police supervision, the situation escalates over the week and on April 1 the military is deployed to shut down the riots. The situation, despite what many thought, calmed down ever so slightly after the military intervention, but the tension remained in the air.

On April 16, the city of Aglesa declares open rebellion against the government. The First Aridite Civil War starts.

Government & Politics

Arideo is a unitary absolute monarchy lead by King Wilbert XI 'the Mad'. The monarch has complete authority on any subject, but due to the stress of managing everything in the country, the late Wilbert X created the OAA, a semi-autonomous arm of the royal family that oversees a large portion of the country.

Military

The Fortoj Armitaj de Arideo is split into three branches; The Gardistoj Armeo, Reĝa Mararmeo, and the Aeraj Fortoj.

Transportation

Arideo has three major airports: Norda Ebenaĵoj Airport (Gvardio de Monteto), Libereco Airport (Arĝento), and Aleksandro la Granda Airport (Urbo de la Avlaventura). Norda and Aleksandro are owned and managed by the government-owned MAA corporation, and Libereco is owned by the MAA but managed by the Arĝento city council.

Arideo's inter-city road network is split into three parts; The Ŝoseo, Nacia, and Loka.

Ŝoseo serves as the high-speed roads, and is usually a very long two-lane two-way highway directly between cities, though it can be bigger if needed. Nacia is the middle ground between Ŝoseo and Loka; Size can vary depending on the location, but it is usually a 2+1 road that goes in both directions. Loka is the smallest of the roads and tends to be in a worse state than the Ŝoseo and the Nacia as the Loka roads tend to lead to local spots that the other two roads won't cover.

Energy

Arideo is almost entirely self-sufficient when it comes to energy production - Only 8% of Arideo's energy demand is imported from surrounding nations. The largest sources of energy in Arideo are, in order of largest to smallest, nuclear (45%), fossil fuels (35%), renewable energy (12%), and imported (8%).

Arideo maintains six nuclear power plants. A seventh site (Gerville) was proposed in 2014, but was put on a halt personally by Wilbert XI.

Several of the reactors are expanding/have plans to expand. Arindelle is currently building a seventh reactor and plans to have an eighth one by 2030. Devenia had an extra reactor proposed in February 2018, but this was not approved by the Ministry of Energy. Falenir started construction on a fourth reactor in 2006, but this was halted due to budget cuts. It is unclear when/if construction will be restarted.
