Arideo, officially the Kingdom of Arideo (Aridite: Reĝlando de Arideo), is a sovereign state located on the Orthurian Peninsula in the continent of Lira, Greater Olympus. Arideo borders Winst and Mèronie to the north, Parthonopia to the west, with the east and south being bordered by the Relias Sea.

Arideo started out as tribes of various origins (a large portion of which were self-exiles from the still-growing Orthurian Empire) before being conquered by the OE at an unknown year. When the OE started declining in the early 5th century, modern-day Arideo would officially remain loyal to the emperor, but starting to exercise more autonomy. When the OE finally collapsed in 472 with the Sacking of Ancona, Arideo would break up into territory split between 55 families, who would almost immediately start feuding over the land, breaking out into the War of the 55 Families, which would rage on until 493 when the 13 families that remained signed the Treaty of Elrei.

[insert semi-brief summary of the history between 492 and 1907]

Internal strife between the royalty and the military would start to take its toll on the Aridite kingdom in the 20th century, with the death of Varian IV and the disappearance of Reinwall XII in 1907 kicking off a series of events that would lead to the attempted coup of 1909. When the coup failed with both the regent and attempted coup leader dead, Gvardio de Monteto would descend into chaos. With no real government to rule the country, various lords from the 12 other provinces would meet in Drakneir and assemble an emergency government. Of course, once the fighting had come to an end in Gvardio, the new government declared the Drakneir government illegal and attempted to take them out in a single blow, which failed and would kick off the Aridite Civil War.

The civil war would come to an end when the AEG officially surrendered on May 14th, 1910. After razing the city of Sarcei to the ground and purging what little opposition was left in Gvardio, Tyr Himmelsgard would crown himself as Osywald I, and thus end the succession crisis.

History

See the opening blurb for the general history; I'll write the more detailed history later.

Government & Politics

Arideo is a unitary absolute monarchy lead by Queen Amadalia II. The monarch has complete authority on any subject, but are assisted in ruling the nation by the Royal Affairs Minister.

Military

The Fortoj Armitaj de Arideo is split into three branches; The Gardistoj Armeo, Reĝa Mararmeo, and the Aeraj Fortoj.

Infrastructure

Transportation

Arideo has three major airports: Norda Ebenaĵoj Airport (Gvardio de Monteto), Libereco Airport (Arĝento), and Aleksandro la Granda Airport (Urbo de la Avlaventura). Norda and Aleksandro are owned and managed by the government-owned MAA corporation, and Libereco is owned by the MAA but managed by the Arĝento city council.

Arideo's inter-city road network is split into three parts; The Ŝoseo, Nacia, and Loka.

Ŝoseo serves as the high-speed roads, and is usually a very long two-lane two-way highway directly between cities, though it can be bigger if needed. Nacia is the middle ground between Ŝoseo and Loka; Size can vary depending on the location, but it is usually a 2+1 road that goes in both directions. Loka is the smallest of the roads and tends to be in a worse state than the Ŝoseo and the Nacia as the Loka roads tend to lead to local spots that the other two roads won't cover.

Energy

Arideo is almost entirely self-sufficient when it comes to energy production - Only 8% of Arideo's energy demand is imported from surrounding nations. The largest sources of energy in Arideo are, in order of largest to smallest, nuclear (45%), fossil fuels (35%), renewable energy (12%), and imported (8%).

Arideo maintains six nuclear power plants. A seventh site (Gerville) was proposed in 2014, but was put on a halt personally by Wilbert XI.

Name Reactors running (max.) Built First activated

Barlias 1 (2)1 TBA TBA
Calenir 5 (6)2 TBA TBA
Devenia 4 (4) TBA TBA
Ecileo 4 (4) TBA TBA
Falenir 3 (3) TBA TBA

Several of the reactors are expanding/have plans to expand. Arindelle is currently building a seventh reactor and plans to have an eighth one by 2030. Devenia had an extra reactor proposed in February 2018, but this was not approved by the Ministry of Energy. Falenir started construction on a fourth reactor in 2006, but this was halted due to budget cuts. It is unclear when/if construction will be restarted.

Notes

1.^ One reactor decommissioned until further notice since 2014.
2.^ One reactor undergoing maintenance.
