The Classical Maverican Language is a member of the Casa-Hemithean linguistic family that geographically spans northern Meridia to Vinya; it is amongst the earliest attested C.-H. languages in Septentrion. Old Maverica is characterized by a highly developed inflectional morphology and is represented by a wealth of literature that date to the 2nd Millennium BCE and still is being produced today; it serves as a highly-regarded medium for cultural, religious, and literary expression in Maverica, and its spread is closely associated with the proliferation of Gramuchan culture there.

Origin

Since the 18th Century, it has been widely accepted, on the grounds of morphological similarity, that all languages of the Maverican family developed from the Proto-Casa-Hemithean language, which is also the source of several other major languages in Innominada and Casaterra, such as Eisenmaatan, Letnevian, Galenian, Tyrannian, Sylvan, and Sieuxerrian. While the precise homeland of those that spoke this proto-language is still debated, with a majority of scholars placing it in northern Meridia, it is assumed that this population traversed the Strait of Porticulla in several waves, each giving rise to a separate language family. Comparative studies place the common ancestor of all Maverican languages in the same clade as the Esuktenni language, which is spoken in Esuktenni in eastern Vinya; this well-supported conjecture implies that the speakers of the latter may have been a continuous group with the speakers of the Proto-Maverican language, some time before they crossed into Casaterra.
