Girls' Galaxy (Anikatian소녀 은하; So Nyeo Eun Ha), also known as SNEH, is a Anikatia girl group formed by S.G. Entertainment. The group is composed of eight members: Tayneul, Sunhee, Tessa, Hyorin, Nari, Jen, Yewon, and Sooyeon. Girls' Galaxy officially debuted on August 5, 2008 with its debut single "Brand New World" and subsequently gained some attention with their self-titled debut album. However, it was not until 2009 that they rose to prominence with the single "Boop!", which claimed the top spot on ANBS's Music Bank for a record-breaking nine consecutive weeks and was named the most popular song of the 2000s decade. The group solidified their place in the Anikatian music industry with follow-up singles "Make Your Wish", "Whoh!", and "Down Devil Down" from late 2009 to early 2010.

Girls' Galaxy has sold over 4.4 million albums and 30 million digital singles as of 2012. The group's immense popularity in its native Anikatia has earned them numerous accolades, notably titles such as "The Nation's Singers" and "The Nation's Girl Group". Girls' Galaxy is also regarded as the most popular A-pop girl groups.

Name

In Anikatia, the group is referred to as So Nyeo Eun Ha (Korean: 소녀은하). They are also known as SoEun (Korean: 소은) or SNEH, both abbreviated forms of the group's Anikatian language name.

Subgroup

In April 2014, S.G. Entertainment formed a subgroup of Girls' Galaxy named TTS (also known as TayTeSoo), which is composed of three members: Tayneul, Tessa, and Sooyeon. In May 2014, the subunit released their debut EP, Sparkle.

Girls' Galaxy's music is predominantly bubblegum pop and electropop. The group's early singles were predominantly bubblegum pop songs; the former also features techno and hip hop elements. Their 2011 single release "Sonyeon" departed for a more "mature" style from the group's previous emphasis on "cutesy" themes.

Their 2013 single "Got a Guy" was noted for its eclectic musical style, utilizing various genres ranging from bubblegum pop, electropop and drum and bass to pop-rap, EDM and dubstep. Jen Chung from Munhwa Weekly lauded the song as "one of the most-forward thinking lead pop singles heard in any country." Both singles' parent album, Got a Guy (2014), combines elements from a wide range of genre such as 1980s new wave, EDM, classic and contemporary R&B.

Public image

The group's image has been a major role in their rise in popularity. In the early years of their career, the group wore relatively no makeup and dressed more conservatively. Rosalía Medeiros from the Asling music publication Signboard wrote: "Girls' Galaxy is a massive nine member group, which is indicative of the way the efficient A-pop machine can favour choreographed style over individual personalities."

Impact and legacy

Following their debut in 2007, Girls' Galaxy has become a prominent figure in both Anikatian culture and music, with music critics noting the group as being a representative figure of post-DSRA Anikatian culture. Their immense popularity has led the group to earn the titles "The Nation's Singers" (국민가수) and "The Nation's Girl Group" The group's fashion has been described as "chic" and "mature", becoming immensely popular among young women across the Far East, with many dubbing the group as "fashion icons".

Endorsements

During their early career, Girls' Galaxy have endorsed several brands such as Sunwoo, DN, and HBurgers has since become a strong contender in the Anikatian fast food market and they attribute their success to the group. Girls' Generation also endorsed clothing brands, online games, food industries, events, electronics, cosmetics, and even products reserved for the top celebrities to endorse such as petroleum and credit cards.

Philanthropy

Girls' Galaxy throughout their music career held numerous a donation campaigns including merchandise and several personal items and a portion of the earning from a number of their albums. As a result, the were selected as honorary ambassadors for Anikatia's "Visit Anikatia 2010 – 2012" campaign, headed by the Anikatian government to attract at least 15 million foreign visitors to the country by the end of 2012, with the group spearheading the initiative due to their emerging worldwide popularity at the time.
