The 1986 World Cup, also called the 1986 Laitstadt World Cup, was an international football tournament contested by men's national teams which took place between 12 April to 19 April, 1986 in Laitstadt, Besmenia. It was the 14th World Cup, a worldwide football tournament held once every year. The tournament phase involved 32 teams, of which all came through qualifying competitions at the start of the event from an original 64 national teams.

Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony took place on Saturday, 12 April 1986, at the Laitstadt Olympic Stadium, beginning with the opening speech by Besmenian president Otto Schulz.
