The National Convention is the federal, unicameral legislature of the Republic of Vardana. It was founded in 1924 during the Vardanan Revolution. The National Convention was the leading force for republican revolutionaries in overthrowing the Monarchy, and served as the first republican government of Vardana when led by the President of the National Convention.
According to the 1985 Constitution, the National Convention exercises legislative power, approves amendments to the Constitution, supervisory power over the Directory, budgetary powers, and declaration of war powers. The National Convention meets at the Palace of the People, in Hrazdan. Members are elected to a two year term, beginning the third Tuesday of July. Each member represents a constituency, which are drawn from within a single province for an average population of 128,006 per seat. The President is the presiding officer of the National Convention, and is typically elected from the majority party.
