The Monarchy of Transbaltia is a semi-constitutional monarchy. The role, position and powers of the monarchy are most recently described in the 1951 Decree of Constitutionality, which describes and formalises the power of the Kanzler over the government, rather than the Grand Duke of Duchess.
The Grand Duchy of Transbaltia has been de jure independent since 1912, however came under the protection of Uppsund from 1914 to 1959. Since 1565 numerous Houses have governed the Grand Duchy, with the House of Matensburg-Meußen ruling in one form or another since 1624.
