Juan Diego Barrios is a West Chanchajillan activist and politician who serves as the 1st Prime Minister of West Chanchajilla, having been elected on August 4th, 2021 in the first democratic referendum in West Chanchajillan history. Barrios was a staunch opponent of the socialist dictatorship regime of Frederick Armbar, gaining noteriety as the most vocal voice against Armbar and for his social media skills which bypassed the strict West Chanchajillan censorship to reveal the human rights abuses of the regime to the international community. Barrios fled West Chanchajilla in the aftermath of the 2020 coup attempt, and he was marked for assassination by Armbar. Continuing to speak out against Armbar in exile in Paraboca, Barrios returned to the West after the 2021 overthrow of Armbar's regime. He was instated as the interim-leader of the West by the Coalition Peacekeeping Mission in April, and was elected only three months later.
As Prime Minister, Barrios has made his administration's primary focus to remove the harsh oversight of the nearly 80-year-long socialist regime and instate democratic policies, free up the market, and allow international aid and investment to flow relatively unhindered. He worked closely with East Chanchajillan President Gideon Boer to remove the cultural and social barriers between East and West and to restore economic connections. He has also met on numerous occassions with other world leaders like Atticus Moreau and Oriol Miguélez to legitimize the "New West Policy". His administration also oversaw the purge of former Armbar regime officials, the beginnings of trials against those suspected of crimes against humanity, and the foundation of several political parties for wider democratic options.
