Capital punishment is a legal penalty in Creeperopolis, currently used all 29 departments, the Papal State, El Salvador, and the military. Its existence can be traced to the Old Kingdom of Creeperopolis (537-745). Creeperopolis is the only nation on the Southern Landmass that applies the death penalty regularly. A total of 3,265 were executed in 2019.

Death sentences in Creeperopolis are pronounced almost exclusively based on the system of judicial sentencing discretion, the Creeperian Bible, or the Creeperian Constitution. The rise in death sentences during recent decades resulted from a concerted reaction by the government and the courts to a rise in violent crime during the Third Senvarian Insurgency, Mara War, Castillianan Insurgency, and Deltinian Insurgency.

Capital Offenses

Constitutional Capital Crimes

Four crimes are considered the most capital of capital crimes: abortion, treason, murder, and pedophilia.

Abortion

Title V, Chapter I, Section I, Article XXVII: Abortion in the Empire is the most capital crime in the nation. There is a zero tolerance policy on all abortions for any reason due to Title I, Chapter I, Section I, Article I of this Constitution.

Title V, Chapter I, Section II, Article XXVIII: All individuals who preform an abortion shall be hanged. All individuals who receive an abortion shall be imprisoned for life.

In southern Creeperopolis, especially Abdan, Helam, and Jakiz, the mothers are often executed.

Treason

Title V, Chapter II, Section I, Article XXIX: Treason in the Empire is the second most capital crime in the nation. There is a zero tolerance policy on all treason.

Title V, Chapter II, Section II, Article XXX: All individuals who are found guilty of treason shall be hanged.

Pedophilia

Title V, Chapter III, Section I, Article XXXI: Homicide in the Empire is the third most capital crime in the nation. There is a zero tolerance policy on all homicides for any reason due to Title I, Chapter I, Section I, Article I of this Constitution.

Title V, Chapter III, Section II, Article XXXII: All individuals who commit homicide shall be hanged. Families of the victims of homicide shall be compensated appropriately.

Murder

Title V, Chapter IV, Section I, Article XXXIII: Pedophilia in the Empire is the fourth most capital crime in the nation. There is a zero tolerance policy on all pedophilia.

Title V, Chapter IV, Section II, Article XXXIV: All individuals who are found guilty of pedophilia shall be hanged. Victims of pedophiles shall be compensated appropriately.

Other Capital Crimes

Creeperian law theoretically allows the death penalty for many crimes:

From 2000 to 2020, Creeperopolis has seen two distinct bumps in execution count.

The first bump in execution count came from 2003-2004. In 2003, the Creeperian Armed Forces toppled the government of Alfonso VI. Following the coup, the new government under Alexander II and under direct orders of Minister of Defense Augusto Cabañeras Gutiérrez arrested, tortured, and executed thousands of supporters of the old regime. The National Intelligence Directorate (DINA) carried out most of the executions with the police force carrying out the remainder.

In 2019, executions skyrocketed following the 2019 San Salvador Attacks and the imposition of martial law. Its effects continued into 2020 with an above average count of executions occuring. Executions skyrocketed again following the 2020 Creeperian Coup d'État Attempt.

The narrow majority of executions were related to terrorism or war. Only around 20% of the executions were related to terrorism with the remaining 80% being executed prisoners of war from the Creeperian Conflicts.

2020 Coup Mass Executions

On February 13, 2020, Alexander II sentenced 7,109 prisoners from the 2020 Creeperian Putsch to death.[24] The 7,109 prisoners from the putsch were dragged from their cells a day early and executed on February 13, 2020, instead. As mandated, low ranking soldiers and officers were executed by a firing squad. The executions are expected to be complete by 6:30pm SST Meanwhile, all high ranking soldiers and officers were hanged. The executions are expected to be completed by 9:00pm SST. Field Marshal Joaquín Barrueco Dengra, the leader of the coup, was treated as if he were an atheist in San Miguel. He was crucified in front of the San Salvador Imperial Palace and burned alive. The public execution was witnessed by a crowd of an estimated 3,500,000.[25]
