The Confederate Imperial Honor Guard were founded in early 1997 from the members of the former Honor Guard of the Empire of Exponent. The Honor Guard is controlled by the Chancellor rather than the Confederate Senate and charged with protecting the Chancellery, important governmental sites, and Paradise City, and responding to any rebellion, coup, or other threat to government power.
The Imperial Honor Guard receives better pay and benefits than members of the Imperial Guard and regular Confederate Army. In 2012 there were reportedly roughly 26,000 members of the Honor Guard, drawn the best soldiers of the other military branches. As many as seven infantry brigades, as well as air defense, armored, and artillery units are currently in existence.
