The High King of the Absolute Royal Federation is the absolute ruler of Absolute Royal Federation and it is he that assembles the royal court and on his behalf that the nobility rules his land. He is also the royal High Commander of the High Command and as such the commander of all armed forces in the Federation. While not bound by laws so are the power of the high king kept in check by the vows and promises he made when he was crowned high king and is expected to uphold them.
History
The crown were theoretically first created by Imer the great during the Imerian migration and he was often referred to as the first high king even if his rule were short and no successor could be named after he died in combat so the Imerians instead broke down in much smaller kingdoms and tribes for centuries until Emanuel the first were able to unite the federation and crown himself the second high king, or the first Stjärnkhrone High King.
In the beginning of the Federation so were the royalty forced to struggle with the various noblemen that rather quickly managed to grab back power in a new growing feudal structure and after only five generations of kings were the royalty all but dependent on the nobility to rule the large realm.
However a tradition started by Sven the first in 1268 so did the high kings demand more and more powers on the expense of the nobility, they were not allowed to sack or burn their commoners houses or demand to be given food from them was the first steps of a new series of large reforms that in the end ended in the Royal War where the royalty supported largely by commoners and lower nobility and the chronically managed to defeat a large revolt against the High King after which Sven declared himself the absolute ruler even if the nobility would still administer his lands on his behalf, but only as long as he tolerated it.
While the feudal system was still officially kept so was it only de jure while the High King himself held absolute powers, a system that is still officially used today. This system worked for a while even if the nobility and the king struggled back and forth for power for centuries and strong kings were replaced by weak ones with growing power of the nobility that were crushed by a strong king afterwards.
This struggle continued until 1753 when Nils rex Stjärnkhrone created the royal advisories that kept the balance by making the nobility the permanently weaker part since the advisory overtook part of their responsibilities and finally tied the army entirely under royal control.

Selection process
The federal throne is hereditary in nature and is passed from father to oldest son, only males are allowed to inherit the throne and it has been like that since the first high king was crowned. If a king is fatherless so is his oldest brother crowned high king, and his oldest nephew of that brother if he is unable and working itself down through the family.
Oath
During the coronation so is a high king forced to swear solemnly on the gods and his honour:
we, (name rex house) swear to sit upon this throne worthy of the memory of the kings of old, we promises to uphold their legacy and lead our federation as a free and great state, never to bow to foreign tyranny, never to take what does not belong to us, never to have our subjects fearing us rather than loving us! We swear to rule as a good and noble king, considerate of the freedoms that a federal subject deserve and just as we will expect the obedience of our subjects so will we be faithful to them and their property!

Powers and duties
The king is the absolute ruler of the federation, it is from him all the authority of his nobility and the advisories comes from. It is he that approves or makes realm laws and he that makes federal laws. He commands the massive armies of the federation, commands them to war, signs peace and more importantly he protects the freedoms and lives of the federal subjects, both from foreign and internal, including his own nobility, threats.
Compensation
"The high king is the federation" and "a state without a crown lacks a government!" is two common phrases in the federation, both of them refers to the fact that the high king by all definitions is the government. As such he is not compensated in the strict sense of the word but is supposed to keep part of the government budget for himself to make sure that he lives well and can accept guests in his many palaces. This is however not his only source of income since he as the head of the Auf stjärnkhrone house owns more than a few farms, mines or factories that also brings in a fair amount of money.
