Ruvelka has existed primarily as an elective monarchy for most of its united history with the only exceptions being its time as a Confederation between 1701 and 1730 as well as when it was a Socialist Republic between 1867 and 1914. The traditional title of modern Ruvelkan rulers has been “Royal Princess” (or “Royal Prince” should a man be selected) since the reinstatement of the crown following the Ruvelkan Civil War; Ruvelkan Imperium was ruled by a “King” or “Queen”. Despite the elective nature of Ruvelka’s monarchy, members of the Prohászka Dynasty—both the primary and cadet branches—have always been elected.

A bicameral legislature was introduced by the National Communist Party of Ruvelka following the Red War in 1867. The bicameral concept was kept by the Imperial Separatists after the civil war and reformed into the moden-day Federal Assembly. The leader of the Federal Assembly is known as the Chancellor

Presently, the Monarch serves as the head of state and the Chancellor serves as the head of government. The current Monarch is Monika Prohászka and the current Chancellor is Elsa Szekeres. Although there are no legal barriers preventing someone from holding both offices, the only person to have ever done so was Rózsá Prohászka.

Ruvelkan Government-in-Exile
As a result of the invasion of Ruvelka during the Siduri War, the Ruvelkan government fled Debrecen and took refuge in the Cacertian Empire. An emergency protocol was invoked and the Chancellor was superseded by a military leader known as a Captain-General.
