Erkunder, branded as ERKUNDER and formerly the Royal Sciences Magazine (Hesurian: Magazin der Königlichen Wissenschaften), is an official monthly-released magazine of the Academy of Royal Sciences. As a family of distinctive published media, it covers a variety of topics related to natural sciences, history and nature, among others.
Overview
Format and appearance
Erkunder is a magazine of general interest in popular sciences, with its topics ranging from current research and applied sciences to geography, nature, history, human geography, politics and world culture. Special editions of Erkunder revolve around one major topic or focus on an individual, epoch and activity. Additionally, local editions of the Erkunder magazine feature distinctive minor articles or columns by its editors relevant to the region in order to appeal to their audiences. The magazine is published in direct print versions or as an online version available through a subscription service.
The magazine is recognized by its iconic and well-known design, featuring the use of photography dramatic in appearance, encased in a thick yellow square-bound format on the magazine's cover, which has since been adopted as part of the academy's official logo in 1994. Smaller than its magazine counterparts, Erkunder usually contain a larger number of pages and are supplemented with numerous color photographs, elaborate diagrams and maps.
Popularity and reach
In December 2019, a total of 443,933 magazines were circulated within Mascylla, and approximately another 2.8 million internationally. This makes Erkunder the third-most populous magazine in Mascylla and among the most widely read magazines globally respectively. According to data of the Langquaider Zeitung, the magazine has a reach of more than 9 million readers worldwide in 2020.
