Mirage is a superhero and member of the Starchild Sorority.

Design

Mirage is a Korean woman in her early twenties. She has long, black hair, parted in the middle, framing her round face and brown eyes so dark their colour is almost indistinguishable from the colour of her hair.

Like her sisters, she has pale skin. One significantly different trait that sets her apart from them is her more curvaceous figure as opposed to their more thin and willowy figures. Her Mark of the Starchild is on her left thigh, coloured dark grey and resembling the constellation Cancer.

Her superhero costume consists of a black leotard with her symbol on the front, a dark grey hooded cape, a utility belt of the same colour, and a pair of black boots.

Her civilian outfit consists of a grey sweater with black horizontal lines across it, a black leather skirt, and matching pantyhose and boots.

As a teenager, Mirage often has her hair tied in a ponytail with a purple ribbon.

Personality

Mirage's experience with ghosts and their victims made her a pacifist, wishing to end all fighting and suffering in the world by becoming a Superhero. Due to her pacifism, she prefers to subdue her opponents with illusions than actually fight them. This attitude extends to smaller conflicts, as she is usually the one to get her allies to stop arguing when a fight does break out among them.

Eunwol shares her father's interest in the occult. However, she went further than he ever did in the matter, as she was born with her Spiritual Eye open, studying enough to make her a decent exorcist to more malign ghosts and a good listener to more passive ones. She also has an interest in vampires, and has even asked her sisters to be turned. Both twins refused, wary of the possible unknown risks of a non-vampire Starchild being turned.

She has shown considerable talent and interest in music, something she shares with her mother. Unlike Hyewon, however, she is not just able to play the guitar, but also write songs and play the piano.

She enjoys sitting in high places to watch the moon, especially when full.

Profile

Realms of the Multiverse

Background

Eunwol was born in the Imperial Harem from concubine and former rock guitarist Na Hyewon. Growing up in such a luxurious facility where all her needs are catered to as long as she behaved led her to constant boredom, leading her to pursuit of the different interests she has now. Her father took note of her curiosity on the occult and decided to give her material on the subject. Sometimes, out of extreme boredom, she would often stretch or take on acrobatic poses as she went through them, inadvertedly using and sharpening her second talent.

Interdimensional Incident

Mirage appeared in the Interdimensional Incident, in her partner's van looking for an address, presumably that of a client in need of her exorcism services, four months before the Drechan invasion.

NationStates Worlds

Mirage appears as caster class units depicted in the following cards:

  • Mirage, Terror Hero

Relationships

Supernova

Mirage's sarcasm and brutal honesty often puts her at odds with the cheerfulness and optimism of her half sister Hanbyeol, which she sees as blind and unrealistic, whereas Hanbyeol sees her gloomy attitude as pointless brooding. She has also thrown snide remarks about her intelligence, saying it was "a wonder" how Hanbyeol even passed high school. Another point of contention between the two is their attitude towards music. Eunwol focuses more on the art itself and how she expresses herself with it, naysayers be damned, while Hanbyeol focuses more on marketing hers and how she comes off to the world, which Eunwol sees as unnecessary pandering. Despite their differences, however, Eunwol still accepts Hanbyeol as an older sister and actually cares for her wellbeing. She said she could not forgive herself if she let Hanbyeol come into serious harm and would "look out for her". She would soon prove her words in the Case of the Ebon Web, being the one who shielded the idol from what could possibly have been a mortal blow and personally rescuing her.

Tactics

Realms of the Multiverse

General

To maximize Mirage's high spirituality stat, one has two choices when grinding Mirage as a playable party member; a stealth/illusion build or an anti-demon build. Both are highly specialized and perform poorly while performing outside their optimal roles, but excel in their respective niches, with the anti-demon build being able to deal astronomical amount of damage to demons or demonic enemies, rivaling even her father.

As a typical blaster, one is expected to attack enemies from afar while playing as her. Her summoning abilities is a versatile tool for any player, as it allows for essentially a temporary fifth party member when in a dungeon with a full party, and a valuable way to ease solo dungeon runs. Mirage does relatively well for a hero of her class in melee combat thanks to her scythe proficiency, which allows her to strike multiple targets in one sweep.

NationStates Worlds

All Mirage cards have effects that deal with hand management, either discarding cards in the opponent's hand or drawing units into her owner's. While building a deck around a Mirage card would depend on the exact card itself, it is advisable to have a few cards that force the opponent to discard to maintain a hand advantage.

Qìnéng and Abilities

Qìnéng

Blue logo transparent.pngBlack logo transparent.png Memory Lane

Being a telepathic Qìnéng, Memory Lane allows Mirage to read and manipulate the minds of others, as well as mentally communicate with them.

The unique Power of Memory Lane, however, allows Mirage to summon and control Memories, copies of people based on her or a target's memories of them. While these copies retain their personalities and any abilities, including their Shuneng, they still generally carry out her bidding.

Abilities

Agility

Mirage is flexible and agile enough to use acrobatics in battle.

Exorcism

Mirage is knowledgeable on exorcism and purification rituals, both on inanimate objects and on living creatures.

Memory

Mirage has excellent memory, which serves her well in combination with her powers.

Multilingualism

Mirage can speak English and understands some Chinese and Indonesian.

Spiritual Eye

Mirage was born with her Spiritual Eye open, allowing her to see and interact with ghosts. While initially uncontrollable, she has learned to open and shut it at will.

Weaknesses

While spiritually powerful, Mirage is lacking in physical combat compared to other heroes of her level.

Mirage's illusions are visual based, and would not work on opponents that can't see her or vice versa.

For a superhero of her level, she has a small Qì reserves and requires significant rest after three uses of Sunset Dream a day. This has prevented her from participating in prolonged battles.

Due to having an open Spiritual Eye, Mirage is more susceptible to possession.

Creation and Conception

The earliest concept for Mirage was from Amenria's 2014-2015 version, which is a woman of similar age who can bring life to drawings instead of summoning Memories. Unlike the current iteration, she didn't have a name and had light brown hair and a similar build as the the vampire twins. This concept was dropped before it can be refined into a proper character, with a related Shùnéng given to Canvas.

A brooding, poetic Starchild Sorority character named Akane appeared in-game in a thread by AHSCA. She has been scrapped.

Mirage as a concept was revisited in 2018-2019. By this time, her Shùnéng was already the same as the current version, but was planned to either wield a whip, two sickles, or a unique weapon that consists of a polearm with two curved blades (akin to a scythe), one on each end, which can be split into two sickles joined by a chain.

One night in July 2021, a RMD received a "flash of inspiration", resulting in the current and final iteration's personality, attire, and more detailed set of abilities. She was planned to have a submachine gun in addition to her scythe, but was scrapped because it was both thematically incoherent with her concept and because it was deemed "excessive for someone who doesn't (directly) fight much".

Trivia

  • Mirage's design is influenced by that of the Grim Reaper.
  • Other inspirations for her design are Lucy Loud from the cartoon series The Loud House and Raven from DC Comics. The latter is also voiced by Tara Strong in the animated series Teen Titans.
