The Praetorian Guard (Latin: Cohortes praetoriae), more commonly known as the Praetorians or the Guard, acts as the personal bodyguard of the Latin Emperor. The Praetorian Guard historically has played a crucial, if not detrimental, role in Latin history and politics, but today has been tamed and primarily serves as protection for the Imperial Family. The Guard differs significantly from the other branches of Latin Armed Forces and its actual constitutional role is left undefined and is hazy at best – even though members of the Guard and members of traditional armed forces all swear oaths of allegiance to the Monarch. Unlike those who join the traditional armed forces branches, all members of the Guard are required to disclaim any titles or inheritance of titles upon joining. Along with providing security for members of the Imperial family, the guard consists of a single legion – Legio VI Claudia Pia Fidelis (6th Legion loyal and faithful to Claudius) – and special forces in the form of the Equites Singulares Augusti.

Traditionally the guard provides protection to the Monarch and the Imperial family, and is able to be used as an armed response to civil unrest, counter insurgency, and even special forces use through the Equites Singulares Augusti ("Personal cavalry of the Emperor"). The Monarch is provided full discretion into Praetorian matters, including appointing of Prefect or any other officer role. The current Praetorian Prefect is John Santella, who was appointed on 18 November 2005 by Emperor Jason VI Augustus.
