Spálgleann City Council (Ghaillish: Comhairle Cathrach Spálgleann) is the local government authority for the city of Spálgleann. As a city council, it is governed in accordance with the Local Government Act 1966 and the Municipal Government (Spálgleann) Act 2017. It also serves as Spálgleann's county council given the city's status as a metropolitan county. The council is responsible for all matters of local governance within the city of Spálgleann. It has 120 members, making it the largest city and council government in Caldia. 110 of its members are directly elected every five years. The remaining 10 are allocated to the party that received the largest vote share in the last election.
Following the 2020 election, the council is controlled by the Social Democratic Party. The head of the council is the Speaker, currently Conor Mac Giolla Eoin. The Speaker works closely with the Chief Mayor and the Spálgleann City Manager, a civil servant responsible for implementing the decisions of the council. It meets at Spálgleann City Hall.
Elections
120 members elected every five years. Members are elected from multi-member districts using the Ní Dochartaigh method of single-transferable vote. There are 18 electoral areas known as wards that members represent. Since the 2017 Municipal Government (Spálgleann) Act, the party that receives the largest vote share is awarded ten additional seats.
The last election to the council was held on 12 June 2020.
