Phoenix Telecom Limited, traded and referred to as PT, is a privately-owned, state-authorized, telecommunications company in the Phoenix Islands. PT was founded by then-Chief of the Islands Marcella Debose after the enactment of the Internet Services Act by the 1st Session of the Chief's Law Council. PT is currently the only company that provides internet services to the Islands, and does so exclusively.

History

Prior to PT

Prior to the formation of PT, Chief Marcella Debose had announced a funding project on November 27th, 2022, for the first internet provider on the Islands. A foreign internet provider, Bliksem Internet, based out of Ferwerter, had placed the largest bid and became heavily scrutinized by the national government, which launched a probe into the bid and into the influence of foreign enterprises.

Founding of PT

Phoenix Telecom Limited was officially founded on June 16th, 2023 after the enactment of the Internet Services Act, which unofficially ended the bid that started the talks originally. It was formed as a government corporation with the government maintaining control and various people from the bids getting a total 20% in the company. After the probe into Bliksem Internet ended, a probe began on the bidding process and corruption after finding a failure to report the results of the bid and for failing to register the company with the ISOC. The ISOC later officially registered and approved the company to operate on an official basis. Phoenix Telecom CEO Victor Arnold told OBC at the time that "A filing was planned for when operations were ready. They are not ready at this time."
