Eldmark, officially the Kingdom of Eldmark (Brattan: Konungariket Eldmark), is a Constitutional Monarchy located in northwestern Nordania in Esquarium. It is bordered to the north by the Straight of Trondal, to the east by the Skjordham and to the west by Sea of Njord. It shares several land borders with Sjealand, as they claim and administer several enclaves in the West Tynic.
Eldmark has a developed, industrialized economy with a high standard of living and high personal wealth, coupled with low income inequality, as well as a robust welfare system. It's capital and largest city, Ravnkøl, is consistently ranked as one of the healthiest cities in Esquarium, featuring a population or 2.5 million people. It is historically one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in Eldmark and is home to the largest port in the country. Other urban areas include Hammarvik, Åndalvern, Kvällholm, and Grönfjall.
Etymology
The name "Eldmark" is one that was chosen by Brattan settlers in the periods of antiquity, dating as far back as the Bronze Age cultures that settled around Hammarvik. Eldmark roughly translates into "Fire Land," though the meaning of the term varies. Some scientists believe the term corresponded to the geothermal activities in the area. Archaeological discoveries at Gejserfjall and Fontänvår dating from the time seem to corroborate with that theory. Other historians suggest that the term Eld has various meanings, one of which translating to fireplace or hearth. Some texts dating from the time also hint at this, defining Eldmark as a land of "cold winters, warm fireplaces, and warmer hearts." Overall, most people including the government tend towards the former definition of the term.
