The Inspectorate Office of Police Services, also referred to as the IOPS, is an independent inspectorate office attached to the IEC with the responsibility to investigate any complaints or accusations of misconduct or illegal actions made against law enforcement bodies in the Empire of Makko Oko. It is the only inspectorate office to have multiple inspectorate generals at its command, and is the largest subordinate office of the IEC as of January 2028. Due to the statutory prohibition on internal affairs departments, the IOPS is the only body that investigates complaints against law enforcement officials and agencies.
History
Originally when the Inspectorate Act was ratified in 2023, there were a dozen inspectorate offices; One for each law enforcement agency, to comply with the statute. This system would be kept in place until the 2026 IEC Reorganization Plan was announced by Chief Inspector Thomas Griffin, which established a full reorganization of the agency, with the individual inspectorate offices for the law enforcement agencies planned to be combined into one super office. The plan was slated to be completed by January 1st, 2028, when the inspectorate offices would be closed down and the IOPS would begin operation, and that happened on schedule.
Authority & Powers
The IOPS has the full authority to launch investigations, suspend and terminate law enforcement officials, manage cases that law enforcement agencies have if they are being mismanaged or part of a complaint or accusation and indict officials in the Inspectorate's Court. As the body is a national agency, the IOPS has statutory authority over law enforcement bodies in the Phoenix Islands in addition to provincial agencies.
Organization
The IOPS is managed, governed and run by the Independent Board of Supervisors, which is a collective board of appointed Inspectorate Generals.
