Elections
Under the 1979 constitution, elections for the National Assembly took place every five years, using first past the post. However, as a single-party state, candidates either had to be nominated by the National Syndicalist Union, or else serve as independents. However, only one election was held under the 1979 constitution: in February 1980, before the outbreak of the Lemovician Civil War, which prevented elections from taking place in 1985 or 1990.
Since the adoption of the 1992 constitution, which established a multi-party democracy in Lemovicia, elections are to be held every four years for the election of the National Assembly, under a party-list proportional representation system. The election threshold is set at 10% to prevent extremist parties to enter the legislature, in order to prevent "extremist parties" from entering the National Assembly.
