Nebez Gewirk (born 9 December 1979) is an Vardanan politician. He has served as a Member of the Directory of Vardana for Ayrum since 2018. Prior to joining the Directory, he was a member of National Congress from 2012 until 2018, representing Ayrum. He also served as President of the National Assembly from 2016 until stepping down in 2017. He is the founder and former president of the 11 July Club.
Early life
Gewirk was born in Miyana, Bayazet, near the Bayazet-Ayrum border, to a middle class family. His father was a doctor of Ayrumi descent, while his mother is a primary school teacher of Mysian descent. He and his father immigrated to Ostrozava in 1986, eventually settling in the working class district of Valegoria. He was raised Yen, but has since announced that he fell out of practice with the faith in university.
Gewirk was educated in Valegoria-based public schools throughout his childhood. He earned a degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Litonín, in 2002. While in university, he was a member of the university's chapter of the Socialist Party. He was also a member of the debate club, and played for the university's football team.
Political career

In July 2008, Gewirk returned to Vardana, for what he would eventually refer to as "a calling of fate" during his 2013 National Congress run. He announced his intention to stand for National Congress.
National Congress
In November 2011, Gewirk announced his candidacy for the 2012 National Congress election. He joined the Radical Party that month. Initially, Gewirk ran in the Radical Party primary for the Maralik constituency, but failed to earn the nomination. He was subsequently placed on the Ayrum Radical Party's list for the province. On election day, the Radical Party earned 10 seats and Gewirk was elected to the National Congress. While the Radical Party runs a closed list, it was later revealed after the election that Gewirk was placed 10 out of 22 on the list.
Gewirk remained on the Radical Party list for the 2014 National Congress election, and held his seat following the election. He pushed the provincial party to run an open list ahead of the election, and proved successful until the national party Chairman Anastas Barkhudar vetoed the decision. As a result the Radicals ran a closed list ahead of the 2014 elections.
He was re-elected a third time in 2016. President of the National Congress Aram Kandarian retried ahead of the 2016 election, opening the role when the 22nd Congress was sworn in on 21 July 2016. Gewirk was nominated by members of his own party to stand for President, and he was later elected to the role on 1 August 2016. He became the youngest President of the National Congress since the founding of the Third Republic, in 1984.
Gewirk resigned from his role as President of the National Congress, and subsequently left the Radical Party. He cited disagreements with party leadership, particularity the direction of the country under the Secretariat of Director Anastas Barkhudar. He was joined by allies in the National Congress formed the 11 July Club, previously a caucus within the Congress. He was re-elected in 2016.
Director of Vardana
Gewirk was considered a leading opposition candidate to Radical Party-incumbent for Ayrum, Daraz Begzadeh – widely considered a potential successor to Anastas Barkhudar. Leading up to the directorial election, Gewirk was a proponent of abolishing the office of First Secretary, claiming the office was unconstitutional. He unsuccessfully attempted to abolish the office in a 2018 court case during the campaign season.
By January 2018, he launched his directorial campaign in provincial capital, Maralik, urging members of his party to launch their own campaigns to allow the party to hold a directorial primary. In the first provincial directorial primary in Vardana, Gewirk earned his party's nomination to serve as its candidate in the June election.
Gewirk finished in second place following the first round of voting in the directorial election, earning 24%. He was victorious in the second round, earning 53%, defeating incumbent Daraz Begzadeh.
Since joining the Directory, Gewirk has voted against measures lead by First Secretary Barkhudar and other members of the Radical Party 90% of the time.
Personal life
In 2012, Gewirk married Maria Amatuni. They divorced in 2019 and have one child together.
