Telewizja Mierska (Miersan Television) is the state-run broadcaster for the Miersan Sotirian Republic, broadcasting television across the entirety of the country.

History

With television becoming a popular means of broadcasting across Euclea from the aftermath of the Solarian War onward, the government of the Miersan Sotirian Republic became interested in establishing a television network to cover the entirety of the Miersan Sotirian Republic.

Thus, in 1952, authorisation was given to the Ministry of Communications to operate a television network, in addition to the radio network extant at the time (Radio Mierska). After deciding to use the standard used on Soravian televisions (systems D and K), the first transmitters were constructed near the cities of Krada, Podgórzyca, Sechia, and West Żobrodź, with test broadcasts beginning in 1955. Per the legislation, all broadcasting was to be done in Miersan.

On 3 October, 1956, the first regular television programs began, beginning with the inauguration of Iwon Wojdyla to the Presidency, followed by the first newscast. While initially, television coverage was only available in these four cities, by 1962, television coverage had reached every voivodeship of the country. At that point, television broadcasts were between 09:00 and 23:00.

In 1971, the first color broadcasts began, using the Soravian TBD standard, although regular colour broadcasts would only start in 1975. However, with the outbreak of the Miersan War in 1979, and the fall of its main studios in West Żobrodź, Telewizja Mierska would relocate its operations to Krada, until it was able to return to its main studios in 1984, as the studios sustained damage during the war.

In 1986, a second channel was launched, with an emphasis on entertainment programming, with the first channel to be an "informative channel." This meant that the first channel rebranded itself as TVM1, although both channels used a similar logo and identity. At this point, private competition, with Telewizja Środkrai in particular becoming more popular than TVM1. In 1991, 24/7 broadcasts began: that year, it launched an international channel to broadcast programming to the Miersan diaspora in the Miersan language.

By 1996, TVM began to establish an online presence. In 2001, digital broadcasts began in Krada, using the Soravian TBD standard. That year, it launched a channel to broadcast children's programs, although unlike TVM1 and TVM2, TVM ABC would only broadcast on digital. Over the next decade, digital television expanded, until by 2011, with the exception of "territories under separatist control and certain remote valleys in Malomiersa," digital television had covered the country. In 2006, a new logo was adopted, and a rebrand was taken, the first since 1971.

In 2004, the West Miersan government announced to transition all analogue signals to digital by no later than 2009. However, this was delayed twice, first to 2011, and then again to 2016, with analogue signals being discontinued on 3 October, 2016.
