The Atlantic Federation often simply referred to as the "Federation", is a loose alliance of democracies of allied nations. It is a sovereign nation located in Europa. It borders the United Kingdom to the north, the Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance to the east, Nibelheim-Saxe-Hanover to the west, and Esthar and Balamb to the south.

As far as the Iron Age, Europa was inhabited by the Gallisians. Later on, Darscen tribes came to the continent. It was under the direct rule of Dath'Remar until in 10 AD, when the empire fell into disunity following Dath'Remar's death. In 30 AD, The Darscens fought a war with people from a distant land called the Valkyria. The War of the Valkyrur in effect happened with the Darscens defeated and were forced the submit. However, In numerous historical facts, The Valkyria themselves were the ones who started the war and the Darscen traitors rewrote the history to present themselves as the saviors. These conflicts, along with the War of the Valkyrur became known as the Darscen Calamity.

In 496, Francian King Simund I united the Francian tribes and one of the first settlements in Europa was created. The Treaty of Sneek partitioned Europa into Gallia, Estharia, Tristannia, and Francia. Francia later became the Kingdom of Atlantia and it emerged as a dominant Europan power under King Philip II of Atlantia. During the 16th Century, Atlantian culture flourished and a global empire was established. At the same time, it was dominated by religious civil wars between Catholics and Protestants. Atlantia became Europa's dominant cultural, political, and military power in the 17th Centurion under Louis XIV. In the late 18th Century, the Atlantian Revolution overthrew the absolute monarchy, establishing one of Europa's earliest republics and drafting the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, which expresses the nation's ideals to this day.

Under the rule of Bernard Le Sueur, the Republic of Atlantia, along with other neighboring states united and was federalized into a united country, forming the modern Federation. The Atlantic Federation had laid several claims on the Lucian colony of Gallia-Bruhl and as well as claiming Tristain La-Fontaine but the growing influence of the Lucis Empire prevented it from doing so. In mid-19th Century, the Federation was tangled in tensions with the Lucis Empire and the newly formed Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance. In 1849, the Federation engaged in a bitter struggle for the control of Gallia-Bruhl in the Gallian War of 1849, ending in Lucis victory and damaging the Federation's reputation. Though an elected Head Councillor acts as the Federation's chief executive, unanimous agreements are rare among the constituent republics, meaning it often takes months to enact measures. Though a series of secret alliances and gains won by extortion and blackmail put the Federation ahead of the Empire in terms of national power, they have yet to defeat them on the field of war.

Today, the Atlantic Federation is a member of the International Red Cross Association, as well as the Association of Allied States.
