Aztatl Association is a Zacapine aircraft and aircraft components manufacturing firm headquartered and operating primarily in Tecolotlan, Zacaco Republic. It was first established in the early 20th century to manufacture biplanes for utility purposes, developing into an aerospace and defense corporation in the following decades before its military division was nationalized into the Zacapine Military Aerospace Conglomerate. Aztatl now operates as the premier civilian aircraft manufacturer of Zacapican mainly servicing the domestic demand for utility aircraft and equiping the national airlines. The company retains close ties with its former military division, frequently cooperating with military designers to adapt Aztatl aircraft designs to military service and vice versa. Aztatl is an example of an Industral Calpolli Association, a confederation of autonomous factory wards across Tecolotlan and the surrounding areas, together forming the production chains for the many advanced components needed for the aircraft manufacturing process.
The bulk of the manufacturing for Aztatl aircraft takes place in Tecolotlan or in outlying cities in the region. It was initially situated there by chance but later would grow into a more sophisticated operation thanks to the city's industrialization as a major ship building center. Some of the calpolli factories that were established to supply the shipyards demands for more specialized and advanced components drew the advanced industries to the city. The Aztatl Association was able to capitalize on this, entering into joint contracts with the naval industries early on for aircraft to be used in conjunction with the navy ships. However, military naval aviation would not become prevalent until after the military component of Aztatl would be nationalized. Nevertheless, Aztatl's capitalization on the industrial expansion of Tecolotlan in the mid 20th century allowed the company to massive expand across dozens of newly founded calpolli around the city needed to manufacture not only a greater volume of materials and units demanded by the growing aviation industries in Zacapican, but also to keep up with the increasingly complex manufacturing processes for large airliners and jet engines.
The golden age of Aztatl ended in the late 1980s as the releases of new model aircraft has frozen for nearly three decades, while the company today is primarily engaged in the continued maintenance of its existing designs which are widely used by Zacapine airlines. The main new designs being produced by the company today are a product of its subsidiary offshoot Citlamatapalli Aviation specialized in light aircraft for leisure, agriculture, pilot training and search and rescue. Aztatl Association has recently announced its "airliner of the future" project, designated Aztatl Az-101 Huetotolotl, in the hopes that the success of a new airliner design that could be exported would revive innovation in the aircraft industry and breathe new life into the calpolli company.

---|---|---|
Aztatl M1921 | Inaugural aircraft and proof of concept. Few M1941 were ever built, and those that were were primarily used for Zacapine air mail services across the Mixtepemec mountains at that time relatively impassable for expedient land transport. First built in 1921. | |
Aztatl Azcalatl | Improved biplane design widely accepted for Zacapine aviation in the early 20th century, used for air mail, utility, agricultural, surveying as well as military purposes as a reconaissance aircraft and bomber. First Built in 1926. | |
Aztatl M1949 | First monoplane Aztatl aircraft, which served as a fighter and bomber in the Zacapine military for nearly ten years. The M1949 was the first Aztatl aircraft to be adapted for naval use as a naval fighterbomber for use against enemy ships in wartime. Entered service in 1949 | |
Aztatl Az-2 | First specialized ground attack aircraft developed by Aztatl for the Zacapine army airforce. Designed in 1944, entered service in 1949. | |
Aztatl Az-10 | Staple of the Zacapine army airforce for much of the mid century, featuring many improvements over the Az-2. Entered service in 1951. | |
Aztatl YM-9 | Air superiority fighter aircraft which entered service in 1948. | |
Aztatl Az-14 | Twin engine transport aircraft, conceived as a military transport but also became the first Zacapine manufactured aircraft to be used as a civilian airliner. First flew in 1950. | |
Aztatl Az-15 | Transport aircraft designed for cargo and crew, primarily intended for domestic airline routes in Zacapican. First flew in 1954. | |
Aztatl Az-20 | Turboprop airliner and among the first Zacapine aircraft to enter the long range flight market with over 6000km of range. Az-20 was well known for its durability and reliability, and remained a staple for Zacapine airlines for most of the mid to late 20th century. It was the first Zacapine aircraft to be widely exported, and ushered in a period of commerical growth of the Aztatl Association. It first flew in 1960. | |
Aztatl Az-44 Zacapitecah | Turboprop airliner developed in the late 1960s to compete with the advent of jet aircraft. Thanks to its swept wing design, it was capable of reaching comprable speeds to those of contemporary jet airliners and held the title of the fastest turboporp airliner in the world. However, its increased pricetag compared to the mainstay Az-20 proved a significant handicap in the design's appeal and it was never widely exported. It first flew in 1969. |
Jet Aircraft

---|---|---|
Aztatl Az-40 | The first turbojet aircraft built by the Aztatl Association and the first jet airliner ever built in Zacapican. Developed based on turbojet engine research and a jet bomber concept that was still in the planning phases when the Association's military design wing was nationalized, resulting in the design being repurposed by Aztatl as a civilian airliner concept. It served in the niche of a short to medium haul airliner for domestic airlines, but was slow to be adopted by these airlines which were wary of the new jet technology for passenger service. It first flew in 1960. | |
Aztatl Az-59 | Workhorse tri-engine jet airliner designed to replace the inadequate Az-40 air fleets. Remains the mainstay of domestic and continental air service. It first flew at the 1965 Tequitinitlan air show. | |
Aztatl Az-62 | Long range narrow body jet airliner, designed for the transoceanic air routes to Malaio operated by Zacapine airlines. It was reliable and cost effective with capacity for 200 passengers, and its superior range gave it an advantage over older turboprop airliners released by Aztatl a decade prior. It would be called the Az-20 II as it ended up becoming a mainstay of the Zacapine air fleets and one of a handful of Aztatl aircraft to be exported in any real numbers, like its turboprop equivalent the Az-20. First flew in 1970. | |
Aztatl Az-67 | Requested by the Zacapine military as an airlifter, it is also used for air freight and cargo purposes to the outlying Zacapine islands and remote regions. It serves as a staple of the Zacapine military with cargo transport, paradrop and aerial command and control variants, permitted to be designed and produced by Aztatl due to their unarmed nature. First flown in 1972. | |
Aztatl Az-70 | Intended as a landmark innovation and the Zacapine aerospace industry to lead the world, the Az-70 is a supersonic passenger airliner that first flew in 1977. However, it suffered numerous technical issues and appeals were eventually made by Aztatl Association designers directly to Tsurushimese experts for technological assistance in resolving safety issues. | |
Aztatl Az-100 | Medium and long range wide-body airliner used by some Zacapine airlines. Inaugurated in 1990. |
