The Cox News Network (CNN) is a Rizean news channel and website owned and operated CoxCo, a media and entertainment conglomerate headquartered in Liberty City, Lothicania. Known for its conservative to far-right political programming and 24-hour news coverage, it is the most-watched specialty news channel in Rizealand, competing with the Holland Company's left-leaning RTN and the Century Corporation's RBC News. CNN broadcasts nationally from its studio at the Liberty News Tower in Midtown Liberty City.
History
During the 1980s, Robert Cox, the founder and CEO of the Cox Company, was attempting to build a television broadcast network that could rival the over-the-air television network duopoly established by RBC and FBC. On July 1, 1983, RTN was launched as the first 24-hour cable news channel in Rizealand. In 1988, after observing the widespread success of RTN, Cox decided to expand into 24-hour cable news and made a bid to acquire RTN. After the Holland Company outbid Cox and acquired RTN, Cox announced on August 18, 1988 that the Cox Company would be launching their own 24-hour cable news channel. Following President Sean McNulty's successful reelection in October 1988, Cox hired David Grosjean, the former head of communications for McNulty's presidential campaign, to oversee the channel's launch.
On Monday, March 6, 1989, CNN was launched at 6:00 PM from its newly constructed studios in Liberty City. After a brief introduction from Cox, the first news segment was hosted by news anchors Alex King and Ruby Price.
