The Constitution of the Republic of Zhenia (Zhenian: 진화민국 헌법) is the supreme law of the Republic of Zhenia. Consisting of one preamble, 8 chapters and 133 articles, the Constitution details the rights of the Zhenian people, the general idea of their relationship with the government and how each parts of the government should be formed and function. It has so far been revised 14 times throughout its history, all of which but once was through nationwide referendum.

Preamble (full text)

We, the People of the Republic of Zhenia, in order to strengthen the unity of the diverse peoples of the Union as successors of the Neo-Republican spirit of the November Revolution, to uphold the security and solidarity of the Union at the defense and welfare of the people, under the notion of democratic reform and fraternity to the people, and to protect egalitarian opportunities, rights and duties of each individual in all political·economic·social·cultural areas under a liberal democratic order based on autonomy and harmony, hereby vow to eternally protect the security and happiness of the present and future and establish this Constitution of the Republic of Zhenia.

Chapter 1. Government and State

Article 1: The Republic of Zhenia as a State

  • §1: The Republic of Zhenia is a democratic republic.
  • §2: The sovereignty of the Republic of Zhenia is at the people, whereas political power of the Republic of Zhenia comes from the people.

Article 2: The People of the Republic of Zhenia

  • §1: The conditions defining the People of the Republic of Zhenia shall be stated by legislation.
  • §2: The Government of the Republic of Zhenia has the responsibility of protecting the People of the Republic of Zhenia outside its borders as legislation specifies.

Article 3: The Domain of the Republic of Zhenia

  • §1: The domain of the Republic of Zhenia is defined as the Danguk Peninsula, mainland Zhenia and its annexed islands.

Article 4: The Duties of the Republic of Zhenia Defense Forces

  • §1: The Republic of Zhenia Defense Forces shall be approved as the only legitimate military force of the nation tasked with the protection of the domain of the Republic of Zhenia and her interests.
  • §2: The duty of the Republic of Zhenia Defense Forces will adhere to international peace and stop foreign aggression.
  • §3: The political neutrality of the Republic of Zhenia Defense Forces shall be respected by legislation, as well as its tasks of protecting the domain and interests of the Republic of Zhenia and maintaining international peace.

Article 5: International Law and Foreigners in Zhenia

  • §1: International treaties signed and approved by the Constitution, as well as generally approved international legislation have equal legal positions as domestic legislation in the Republic of Zhenia.
  • §2: The status of foreigners shall be respected according to international legislation and treaties.
