The Esermian Strategic Treaty (EST; Darden: Strategischeinkelet der Esermia, SDE), also colloquially known as Democratic Esermia, is an intergovernmental military, political and economic alliance comprised of 12 nations in Esermia, formed after the signing of the Democratic Accords of 1969. The EST maintains a structure of mutual defence, defines political and societal statutes, and standardizes economic regulations between member states collectively. The EST is headquartered in Manstedten, New Colcha, while various other administrative centers for the EST and its branches are located among member states.

The EST traces its origins to the trilateral compliance between the Dardenic nations of New Colcha, Bavmark and Normanfara. The demand for an intergovernmental alliance arose in 1968 with the end of the Colchan Civil War, resulting in the secession of the socialist Colcha and founding of the United Socialist Coalition (UNISOC) by Ostroci, suddenly creating a political contrast in Central Esermia. Esermian democratic leaders had doubts as to the power of their nations militarily and technologically against a unified socialist force, particularly with the geographic advantage which Ostroci and their allies maintained. As the Democratic Accords were signed, relations between the democratic and socialist nations continued to wither, with this period considered to be the start of the Cold War in Esermia. It wasn't until 1980 that the modern political and economic elements of the Treaty were brought into place, seeking to further unite member states to allow the free movement of people, goods, services and trade, and establish an internal market to meet the powerful and highly centralized, socialized economies of UNISOC. In 1991, the Dardencorps branch was created between New Colcha, Normanfara, and Bavmark, committed to increased response to offensive and defensive situations in central Esermia.

In spite of many seeing the EST as purely militaristic in its foundations, the alliance has granting considerable economic growth for its member states and has acted as a successful deterrent to large-scale war, both conventional and nuclear, between major powers. Although the political divide between democracy and socialism is still apparent in the present day, relative stability exists between EST and UNISOC nations, with steps being taken to maintain sovereignty whilst allowing peace to be preserved across Esermia and internationally.

The Dardencorps is a separate defensive pact formed by New Colcha, Normanfara and Bavmark in 1991. The Dardencorps was established in order to combat local threats without being beholden to the rest of EST member states. The pact itself must be renewed once a leader dies or resigns, which is done to verify legitimacy of all military operations. The Dardencorps is headquartered in Deora, the capital city of Normanfara, chosen primarily for its geographically strategic position on the west coast of mainland Esermia.
