Federation of Soviet Republics (formerly Reberiya), is a sovereign country on a continent of Casaterra, in Septentrion. It is bordered by New Tyran and Bataviae on the west, Sieuxerr on the south, Sebrenskiya on the east and Letnia on the north. FSR is a socialist one-party federal republic, with current head of the state being Borys Korostowskyi, who is in office since 2008. The capitol of Reberiya and its biggest city is Zasichchya with 2.8 million residents. Other major cities are Synesercevo, Khmilnyk, Chygyriv and Synesercevo.

History

First Settlements

First Reberiyan migrants arrived in the area in early 5th century after being pushed away from their original locations by Eisen tribes, as well as other Slavic migrating tribes, settling down in the northern part of country between the mountains, slowly advancing southwards through the mountaneous terrain. The whole passage from Eisen to then one of the minor Gaulish kingdoms was filled with settlements by 780.

Trade Republics and The Union

By 800, a series of trade republics were established along the road "from Eisen to Gauls", each controlled by a powerful merchant guild. However, Gaulic unification into Sieuxerr in 843 provoked them into action, as each of them felt threatened by this new big player appearing on their doorstep. This led to the Act of Union (reb. Ак'т злуки) in 854, where four most powerful republics along with a couple of less powerful states around them created a Federative Trade Republic of Rebria. New state used its new power to consolidate the taxing of the trade route, securing its economical survival. With the discovery of Blue Heart lake and its massive salt deposits in 1129, Reberiya became a leader in Casaterran salt trade, bringing a period of prosperity to the land. However, the growing revenues led the ruling guilds and families to usurp more and more power, leading to general poverty among the disgruntled lower-class citizenry, which led to banditry becoming more and more common throughout the country throughout 13-14th century.

The establishment of the People's State

As the banditry became more common, government decided to deal with the issue with crackdowns on dissenters as well as raising taxes to fund mercenary bands to clear the main trade routes of bandits. However, the effort was miscarried and ended up with several rich families hiring mercenary armies that were used as bodyguards and tools of political leverage more than bandit fighters. With that, a "People's Army" was created in 1402 by a group of lower-rank nobles and officials, led by Dimetry' Sudakevych (reb. Диметри Судакевич), a retired mercenary veteran. He moved from village to village, proposing an ideology that at the time he just called "a better way of life", and by 1410, his ranks swole to a sizable 70,000 man army of peasants, rebels and disgruntled lowranking officials; with this, he began his war with banditry. In 1418, a substantial victory has been achieved with banditry being completely destroyed not only by this army, but also by persuasion and guarantees. Because of this, not only his force grew in popularity amongst common folk, he became "the threat" to the ruling elite, that considered him too powerful. However, after a failed assasination attempt, Reberiya was embroiled in a civil war. Losing the last bits of the popular support and dwindling its funds by buying up more and more mercenaries, by 1423 the loyalist mercenary armies were pushed all the way to the Chygyriv, where the remnants of the old government surrendered. Afterwards, Chygyriv accords of 1423 proclaimed an establishment of People's State of Reberiya - a unitary state led by the elected Hejtman'. Outside perspective quote the country as virtually unchanged for an outsider, providing rough mercenaries and trading their goods as actively as before, if not even more.

Reneissance era

Placeholder internal rise text filler not!-30 years war (TBD)

After the not!-30 years war (insert when done), Reberiya was at its all-time peak of power coming up unscathed in a region exhausted by war, which heavily facilitated trade for enrichment purposes. This created some issues, as Reberiya did not possess an open-water port, leading to controversial riverine trade through Bataviae. This culminated in the Fisherman incident, when Reberiyan merchants were killed by Bataviaen soldiers for not giving their goods up. The escalation lead to the series of conflicts, known as Reberiyan Salt Wars(to do). In the end, through Tyranese intervention, a status quo ante bellum was restored, forcing Reberiyan leadership to look for alternative possibilities. This emerged in a form of the Treaty of Cleeburgh of 1683, which leased Sieuxerran land in return several for trade concessions, as well as an establishment of a guard unit of Reberiyan soldiers serving in Sieuxerr.

IDK what happens in 18th-early 19th century. More trade stuff.

The Eight-Year Struggle

After several years of agressive posturing with New Tyran, Reberiya entered Pan-Septentrion War in 1940. (stuff happened) Due to the entry of Letnia into the conflict, as well as dwindling resources and prospects, Reberiyan government called for a ceasefire and a cessation of hostilies on XX/YY/1944. Following the start of negotiations and disarmament of Reberiyan Armed Forces, parts of Reberiyan Army made their way to the south-east of the country, proclaiming Reberiyan Social Republic, antagonistic to both Allied Powers as well as the government of Reberiya. The conflict between re-armed Reberiyan Armed Forces reinforced with Allied troops against Axis-aligned elements followed until 1946. Due to the one-sided nature of the government, as well as lack of popular support, the immediate post-war period was filled with strife and mismanagement, as a rump government could not cope with the damage dealt to the economy, while remaining unwilling to create a coalition government with radical elements. These radical elements, united into the Revolutionary front, swayed large swaths of Pan-Septentrion War veterans to raise arms and overthrow the incumbant government. As government troops refused to fight or outright joined the revolutionaries, most organised resistance to the events was isolated to the exclave regions of Portomyr and Zapomoryy'a.

As a result, the Federation of Soviet Republics was proclaimed in Zasichchya on 23rd of June, 1948.

Geography

Federation of Soviet Republics is located in the centre of the western Casaterra, being located between XX and YY degrees North; 50 and 55 degrees West, covering an area of X sq.km. It shares its border with Sebrenskiya, Sieuxerr, New Tyran and Bataviae in clockwise order starting from northeast. The single exclave of Portomyr is located on the border between New Tyran and Sieuxerr, hosting the country's only port to the Crimson Sea. Terrain of the country is dictated by two mountain ridges colloquially known as "Reber's", making a sizable part of the country practically inhabitable.

Government

Federation of Soviet Republics is a federal one-party parliamentary republic with a single Socialist party being represented, with government divided into legislative, judiciary and executive branches. Legislative branch is represented by a unilateral body called Верховне ви'че (tyr. Verkhovne viche). It consists of 165 members elected to a 10-year term on the basis of direct universal suffrage via proportional system with local district political candidates ranking included in their secret ballots.

The executive branch is represented by the head of the state, Реввійс'крада (tyr. Revviysk'rada) - a cabinet of ministers elected by the head of state (his vote being equal to that of 30 representatives) and the legislative branch in a secret vote on one-by-one basis.

Judiciary branch is represented by the Supreme Court consisting of judges appointed by both other branches of the government with a proviso for additional judges being appointed from the ranks of military judges when required.

Military

After establishment in 1402, the Reberiyan People's Army (RPA) became the single armed forces service of the country. However, the personnel of the army had exceptional freedoms, up to 1684 being able to serve as mercenaries in foreign armies while being in the Reberiyan military, however regulations following treaty of Cleeburgh stopped this, with only official unit in foreign service belonging to Sieuxerr. Since 1978, however, the armed forces are known as Due to the geography specifics, the armed forces specialize in mountain warfare, bringing a heavy emphasis on light and air vehicles usage as well as light infantry prowess. Throughout history, Reberiyan mountaineers were regarded as some of the best in the world, leading to several countries troughout the history opting to use Reberiyan army trainers to train their militaries.

Nowadays the Reberiyan People's Navy (RPN) exists.
