Forynthry

The Forynthry are a trio of lands bordering the Kouralian Farlands on the Pony Lands continent of Borealia. Recent in formation, they are broadly analogous to three now destroyed nations which were brought low in cataclysmic occurrences over the past few years. Hostile environments in the extreme, one standing commitment of the Kouralian Military remains securing the Royal Union against incursions from these territories through active combat operations in what are now termed the Forynthryc Marches.

Origins

The three Forynthry were created by entirely separate phenomena across a small number of years throughout the early 21st Century. The only predicted Forynthry was Forynthry-Boreous, the first created, as its creation was the result of an annually-repeated event escalating beyond control. This occurred when the 31st Annual Demon War spiralled from a spectacle observed by thousands of spectators to a desperate battle to contain a daemonic invasion of Earth by Khornate forces in April of 2014. The escalation of the situation resulted in a failure to save the Hobbiest Republic, though the growth of the portal was halted and the former nation surrounded by wards and spells.

In January and February of 2015, shortly after one another, the nations of Montesardo-East Adanzi and the Celestial Empire of Harmony were also utterly destroyed. Both nations destruction occurred independently but shared many details. While still inhospitable in the extreme, these Forynthry are considered less dangerous than Forynthry-Boreous.

The Forynthry bear great similarity to the 'Bay of Elven Fury' which used to be the nation of Hippostania before it was excised from the Earth's crust by the Menelmacari Navy among other nations, however in that instance the very land the nation sat on was destroyed, and contamination proved to be short-lived.

Name

The Name 'Forynthry' is a High Kouralian word meaning 'Wilderness' which was originally used to mean those areas beyond Kouralian trading outposts on Norstralia which were not controlled by recognised civilisations. In its current sense it was first used to describe the former Hobbiest Republic Empire following its collapse, as the 'New Forynthry', before being later adapted to include the two following Forynthry in the terminology. Before the collapse of the Hobbiest Republic, 'Forynthry' had been used informally to refer to nations and areas which were inhospitable and undesirable to reside within in the extreme, such as the Freestian Outback and post-collapse New Freedomstan.

Forynthry-Boreous

Formerly known as the Theocratic Hobbiest Republic Empire, Forynthry-Boreous was formed at the conclusion of the '31st Annual Demon War.' This event was one of many annual demonic incursions into the nation which were predictable to the date, time, and exact location. For this reason, and the unique temperament of the Hobbiest peoples, the Demon Wars became more of a spectator sport. This complacency in the manner of Watling Street resulted in the complete destruction of the Hobbiest defenders and the wholesale slaughter of spectating civilians when a stronger than expected force of Khornate demons attacked. The lack of contingencies for this resulted in immediate chaos and international intervention by many nations including the Royal Union of Kouralia, though unfortunately conventional military strength acted more as a speedbump to the dark sorceries of the warp gods.

Fortunately for the rest of the Pony Lands a combined multinational force of wizards and clerics managed to place wards upon the lands and curtail the expansion of the portal, though not before the entire former Hobbiest Republic was subsumed into a chaotic hellscape. The surviving conventional military forces remained in place initially, before departing and leaving the Royal Union to maintain a security perimeter once it became clear that it would be almost impossible to reclaim the contaminated territories.

Not much is known about life within Forynthry-Boreous. It is very hostile according to the accepted reports of untainted survivors who have escaped. Much of the native flora and fauna is burned away, mutated, or hunted with impunity by demonic beasts. Such unnatural creatures haunt the lands with varying degrees of purposefulness, and tend to be the most dangerous creatures within the Forynthry. Foreign Cultists of Chaos and mortal servants of the dark powers such as Astartes are known to have been sighted in support of the demons. In addition to this, while there are dwindling bastions of survivors, many of the native inhabitants of the former Hobbiest Republic Empire have been driven mad and either into the service of the Dark Gods, or to prowl the land and prey on the weak for purposes as myriad and dark as those of the invaders.

The Kouralian Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to Forynthry-Boreous.

The NFEZ is the statutorily-defined area of operations to keep the threat from the Forynthry-Nord contained and prevent it from impinging further on Kouralian territory. Following the conclusion of the 31st Annual Demon War, the Royal Union of Kouralia took on primary duties for securing the devastated former Hobbiest Republic Empire, however after it rapidly became clear that no clean-up was possible the Kouralian Government formalised the Northern Forynthryc Exclusion Zone in the Statute of Forynthry (2015). This Statute describes the limits of the NFEZ and both establishes a standing authority for the Crown to deploy military forces to it and gives a legal authority for the use of lethal force in enforcing the Exclusion Zone.

The NFEZ is primarily staffed by soldiers, sailors and airmen of the Kouralian Military, though other nations are known to contribute to the defences. Like the Forynthryc Marches, operations within this area fall under Kouralian Home Command. Due to the size and complexity of the endeavour of maintaining the NFEZ however, a separate Theatre Operating Command was established in April 2015, though its operations were not extended to the Marches. The Blockade is maintained by multiple Divisions of the Kouralian Army, Combat Air Commands of the Kouralian Air Force, and a collection of Battlesquadrons of the Kouralian Navy.

It is noted that since

The post of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Forynthry Theatre Operating Command (GOC-in-C, FTOCOM) is currently held by Captain-General Avarrocka Saros (OF-9) and as the third incumbent he has held it since June 2017. He is supported by a Deputy GOC-in-C who is a General of the Royal Army (OF-8), and a Deputy Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Naval Forces Forynthry Operating Command (DFOC-in-C, FTOCOM-NAV) who is a Fleet Admiral (OF-9) responsible for oversight of the naval blockade which secures the majority of the NFEZ perimeter (though maritime incursions are far rarer than land-based ones).
