Frederick IV (Friedrich Wilhelm Ulrich; Tyrnican pronounciation: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈvɪlˌhɛlm ˈʊlʁɪç]; born 12 August 1968) is the reigning King of Tyrnica and the commander-in-chief of its armed forces, and also serves ex officio as the Co-Consul of the Free City of Elstock.

Frederick was born in the Hospital of St. Perende the Apostle to Prince Erich and his consort Princess Charlotte. He was heavily influenced by his grandmother Queen Margaret throughout his childhood, before Frederick and his siblings were moved to Blayk in 1983. While living in Montigné, Frederick was present for the birth of Leopold III, with whom he would develop a life-long friendship. Two years later, Frederick returned to Vedayen to complete his secondary education, and subsequently went on to attend the University of Valschaffën.

When Queen Margaret passed away on 19 October 1990, Prince Erich succeeded her as Erich VIII. Upon the completion of his university degree, Frederick served in the Tyrnican Defence Force for a period of twenty-four months, before officially undertaking his duties as heir apparent. Following his father’s abdication in 1996, Frederick assumed the throne; he was married in 1999 to Catherine Glensburg, while his children Prince William and Princess Estelle were born in 2002. Frederick is considered to be an authority on Tyrnican constitutional law, having delivered several lectures on the subject. As monarch, his approval rating remains consistently high and his reign has seen an improvement

Early life and education

Frederick was born during the reign of his paternal grandmother, Queen Margaret. His parents, Prince Erich and Princess Charlotte, had elected to give birth at the Hospital of St. Perende the Apostle due to concerns that a Caesarean section would be necessary. Queen Margaret, who had given birth to Prince Erich via a Caesarean delivery, urged the couple to opt for a CDMR. Contrary to the Queen's wishes, Frederick was born at 11:43 PM (UTC+01:00) on 12 August 1968, without the need for an operation.

At the suggestion of Queen Margaret, Frederick attended a private kindergarten in Vedayen, in conjunction with private tutoring.

Heir apparent

Reign

Since Erich had announced his intention to abdicate at the beginning of 1996, Frederick’s coronation was able to be organised ahead of time. As the winter holiday season would have impacted public attendance, Frederick’s coronation took place in mid-January 1997.

Personal interests and activities

In a 2012 interview, his former university professor posited that Frederick could have gone on to have a successful career in the judiciary, if he was not a member of the royal family. However, Frederick refutes this claim and claims that his interest in constitutional law stems predominantly from his extensive work on the subject during his childhood and adolescence.

Titles, styles, honours and arms

  • 12 August 1968 – 19 October 1990: His Royal Highness Prince Frederick of Tyrnica
  • 19 October 1990 – 25 December 1996: His Royal Highness Frederick, Prince of Kürskäringar
  • 25 December 1996 – present: His Majesty The King of Tyrnica

Upon his birth, Frederick became second in line to the Tyrnican throne and was thus granted the honorific of “Prince” and the accompanying style, His Royal Highness. Two weeks after his father’s coronation, Frederick was inaugurated as the Prince of Kürskäringar in accordance with his status as heir apparent.

In his role as Co-Consul of Elstock, Frederick's titles are not legally recognized by the city-state, and he is officially referred to as His Excellency Friedrich Weidenhain, marking the republican influence on Elstock's constitution.
