Free Republic is a nation in western America. It is bordered by Meco to the northwest, Forna to the north-northwest, Gatula to the north, Tas to the northeast, Sury to the east, and the American Nomadic Region (ANR) to the south. It has a coast with the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Free Republic is a special case as it is essentially a decentralised collection of city states, called lordships, that range from near complete anarchy to totalitarian dictatorship to collectively owned commune. Civil liberties are ranked low since the central government has little control and most lordships have little protection or respect of civil liberties. Political freedom is also low for similar reasons.

Free Republic’s economy is very weak and very decentralised. There are some mining operations, farms, and manufacturing plants located throughout the country, however none are of a large scale nature. Free Republic is consequently in deep debt from high imports from neighbouring countries.

Etymology

Free Republic is so named to define itself as being free, equal, and a republic. Other names that were considered were Freedonia and Liberty Republic. The founders of the country wanted to create a society of equality, freedom, and democracy and decided to showcase this in the name and flag.
