Habitat

The giant Scanderan goose, Khönunga gås (king goose) or Gåsius Maximus (Gooseius Maximus) is the giant goose that inhabits most of Scandera and one can find the giant creature paddling along in rivers or lakes where it makes it's home. However despite it looks and it's herbivore nature so is the Scanderan goose one of the animals with the highest amount of sentient kills per year as it inhabits land close to humans and it is one of the most aggressive animals in all of the continent. This combined with the strength in it's wings and it's beak makes it able to kill an unsuspecting human which has earned it the nickname "The scanderan hippopotamus".

Etymology

The modern Imerian word "Gås" for singular and "Gåsar" for plural as well as all Scanderan terms for the giant goose comes from the word "Gais" in old urmål. The term giant goose or "Jätte gås" in Imerian is a reference to it's size compared to other geese.

History

Historically so have the giant goose been domesticated for as long as horse wolves and Shagrats to be used as guards and for food while their feathers have been used to make everything from sleeping pillows and stuffing coats to crossbow bolts, darts and arrows over the ages. Even today so is the giant goose employed by the royal guard for guard duties and seeing large groups of them waddling around military installations is not uncommon and they remains to this day a popular source of food for both the nobility and the commoners alike and on the countryside can one often see them kept in the same herds as Shagrats as the two species easily takes a liking to one another and the shagrats friendly and cuddle hungry nature helps the geese accept their herders while the geese also keeps most predators at bay as anything short of a bear, lion, golden eagle or a horsewolf think twice about attacking a giant goose.

Taxonomy

Originally so wanted Hylfred Görenssen name the giant goose Gåsius Maximus and use the latinsed Imerian word rather than the term Anser adopted in Europe at the time and he expected the high king, Gustav rex Stjärnkhrone IV at the time, to back him up against the royal science advisory and it's leader, Göran auf Borgnafe, in this matter as he had done in most instance out of the spite the high king had for the current head of the royal science advisory's speaker. However countrary to most of the pig latin names that Hylfred managed to get pushed through so did the high king refuse to let it be named Gåsius Maximus and instead did Hylfred have to name it Anser Tyranus, or terror goose.

Anatomy and health

Size compared to a human

At between 1.8 and two meters height and a wingspan of up to 4 meters so is it the largest of Scanderan birds dwarfing even the golden eagle that lives there. As most geese so does it have a long neck that it uses to eat and it has a large orange beak with legs and paddles of the same colour. However it is also known for being a very strong animal with enough strength in both wings and beak to easily break human bones and it is more than well known to be able to kill a human and even a troll would it need to.

Reproduction

The wild goose is a migratory bird that flies down to the southern parts of Scandera and especially Söderang, syd Eteisrannikko and Jarnarna where it mates before moving home in spring where it gives birth to it's young. It is common that a goose lays at least ten eggs after being impregnated. It does mate for life and a pair sticks together when they are nesting the eggs and takes turns nesting and guarding the eggs while the other partner is out searching for food.

Diet

As most geese so does the giant Scanderan goose finds most of it's food on dry land where it eats leaves, grass and other similar plants even if it from time to time can even eat underwater plants.

Behaviour

The goose is a migratory bird that leaves for southern Scandera come winter where it mates as well. It is however known all around Scandera as a very bipolar animal as they can be very friendly and even good pets if they have been able to bound with a human and tame geese are very friendly to people they recognises. People that are not recognised however are a entirely different story as the goose is very aggressive to them and starts by flapping it's wings while hoonking aggressively before it charges with little to no provocation making them rather good guard animals.

Life expectancy

A goose can grow to be 15 years old.
