Hashijima is a small island in the eastern Cantalle Ocean that is a foreign territory of Zoygaria. Inhabited by various cultures for tens of thousands of years, including Yuaneze, Emansian, and Sanpian empires, the modern settlements on Hashijima were originally utilized as a way point between the Zoygarian mainland and its Ausianan colonies. During the era of colonization, the island developed into a lucrative trading post and important naval base. Following the independence of the Zoygarian colonies in Ausiana, the island remained part of the Imperial Commonwealth, later being directly incorporated as a foreign territory. Hashijima remains a source of geopolitical tension between Zoygaria and Yuan, as the latter has sought recognition of its legitimacy over the island in a similar vein to the disputes over Gangkou, Yorojima, and Puale Isle.

Under Zoygarian administration and market reforms which liberalized its economy for greater access to the nearby international shipping lanes, Hashijima has seen rapid economic growth and industrialization. Hashijima's export-oriented economy stands with a focus on steel, machinery, electronics, and chemicals manufacturing. Roughly 93% of the population of Hashijima reside in the highly urbanized city of the same name on the island's east coast, with the remaining living in smaller west coast villages. The city of Hashijima is densely populated and consists of hundreds of skyscrapers, including the Hashijima World Financial Center which rank among the tallest buildings in the world.
