The House of Aquila, is a Euclean royal house of Solarian origin, officially founded by Julius Aquila Gregorius, who himself comes from an early Solarian patrician family, the Aquilae, although other records of the family have been lost to history. It is among the largest and oldest recorded royal houses in Euclea and the world. In particular, the House has been rulers of the island of Aquila for thousands of years (although not always continuously), giving the name to the island itself and the Kingdom that would eventually arise on the island. Julius Aquila Gregorius would conquer the island for the Solarians in 333 BC; the island remained in the family until it was persecuted for its Catholicism and driven underground by the Solarians. St. Gregorius I would unite the island in 500 AD, creating the Kingdom of Aquila with his coronation from the Pope; his direct descendants have been ruling ever since. The head of the House is the King of Aquila, Gregorius XXXIII, who has been its head since 2005.

The vast majority of members of the dynasty are Catholic, many devout. Called the "Sword of the Papacy", the Kings of Aquila were always staunch allies of both the Pope and the Church. The House was deeply involved with the Crusades, culminating in a series of Crusader Kings. Also, there are seven monarchs of Aquila who are Saints- St. Gregorius I, St. Petrus I, St. Petrus VIII, St. Gregorius XIII, St. Pius I, St. Paulus VIII, and St. Ioannes XIV, as well as other members of the house themselves who are Saints, such as St. Ioannes de Aquila, martyr, and St. Veronica de Aquila.

The House of Aquila generally enjoys a harmonious family relationship. Although traditionally having primogeniture succession and the large size of the House, there are not many internal struggles between the members of the House, with the exceptions being the first and second succession crises. Unique to the family is the fact that most members live together in St. Gregorius' Palace, and rarely take other noble titles, although many members of the family play an important role in political or ecclesiastical affairs. Also, because of the way succession works by Aquilan law, there are no "cadet houses" of the House of Aquila- the Tironan Branch, which lives separately from the rest of the family and is the claimant family to the throne of Tirona, is often distinguished, but they are still full members of the House of Aquila, not a "cadet house". Therefore all male-line descendants of Julius Aquila Gregorius are members of this House, although there are no living members that are not descendants of St. Gregorius I. All members of the House earn, by merit of their birth, the title of "Prince of Aquila". The House never expanded much beyond the borders of the Kingdom, instead contenting itself with what it had. And although they were never the most powerful rulers, they have preserved, while other dynasties crumble and die.

House of Aquila, Tirona Branch

The House of Aquila does not have any official cadet houses. All members are considered as part of the same family, and bear the dynastic name Aquila. The following people are considered as part of the branch which occupied the Tironan throne from 1594 to 1719, when they were deposed. After they were deposed, they fled to Aquila and were given the supervision over the vacant Barony of Hostica, where the family would live for centuries, unlike the main House of Tirona, which lives in St. Gregorius's Palace. The claimant to the throne, John X, married Cecilia III de Norcross, who was disposed from the Tironan throne in 1935, joining the claims of two houses to the throne, which they currently dispute the Tironan Throne with the Gaullican House of Carolnan. After working out a repurchase of the Crusader fortress and old estate of the Prince of Tirona, Tirona Castle, in 1954 from the Republic of Tirona, John X and Cecilia's descendants have lived in the Tironan Castle, though they still often visit Aquila; the other members of the Tironan Branch, descendants of their fourteenth cousin Raymond (1900-1974) remained as stewards of Hostica in their absence. Unlike the main family that chooses more Solarian names, the Tirona branch generally uses more Gaullican and Estmerish names. Since they are considered part of the same house, the relationship to the head of the House is still the relationship to the Head of the House of Aquila.
