Kaoru Sugiyama (21 May 2019) is a Lucian soldier currently serving in the Lucis Army as a member of Task Force 141 under Detachment K.
Born in 2019, Kaoru is the first son of Tatsumi Sugiyama and Shiori Akiyama. Kaoru was raised under the careful observation of his great-grandmother Tsukuyo Kushineda. Kaoru is different from his siblings and cousins as he is the only one of the Sugiyama family members that was born outside of Lucis, being born in the Erebonian Empire. Kaoru is a smartphone whiz, as well as an electronic specialist, often being able to reverse engineer phones and adding in various functions, such as DNA scanners and an electrical lockpick. His gadgets would prove to be useful in Henry Statham's missions, as well as those of Task Force 141.
