Mespalia, officially the Republic of Mespalia, is one of the twenty-five republics of Omerica. Bordered by the Free State to the north, the Strathavonian exclave of Chester County to the south east and the Vermilion Bay to the west, Mespalia is a polycentric metropolitan area and is commonly identified as a potential future megacity. The republic is the largest by population and forms the financial and cultural capital of the United Republics.
Inhabitants of the republic are referred to as Mespalians or metropolitans.
Etymology
The name “Mespalia” originates from an acronym standing for the Metropolis of Solentine, Port-Alexandre, Lunenburg, Inverwilliam and Avalon. At the time the name was coined, the area was part of the Free State and had been variably called the “West Free State Metropolis” or “East Vermilion Metropolis”. The name was left unchanged after the incorporation of Christiana in 1961 and was officially adopted as the region’s name upon its secession from the Free State in 1995.
