The Republic of Calvard is a sovereign country in Western Zemuria. It neighbors the Erebonian Empire and Alteria to the west; Remiferia to the north; Aurucolia to the east; and the Kingdom of Liberl to the south.
Prior to the 16th Century, Calvard had been a rich Catholic Kingdom. Although during the Protestant Reformation, Calvard became under threat from various Protestant rebellions that caused the Calvardian Reformation War, in which the Calvardian Catholics and Protestants declared peace, although Catholicism would remain the dominant religion in Calvard. It was during this conflict where Calvard lost control of the Alterian region following its declaration of independence. Calvard focused on its economic and trade growth as it opened its doors to trading with its neighbors, particularly the Erebonian Empire, which has had numerous conflicts many times in the past. Although cooperation between the two feuding nations were seen in certain occasions, as shown during the Sandoric Wars, when Erebonia and Calvard allied with each other to halt Sandor IV's expansion. Following that war, Calvard and Erebonia enjoyed warm relations until during the Lucis-Erebonian Wars of 1550-1558, where Erebonia attempted to annex the Crossbell State from Calvard. The Calvardian Army took control of the government in 1883, prompting the establishment of the Single Party Military Ruled state that had made Calvard militarily strong but economically stagnant. As a result, Calvard went on to wage minor conflicts across its borders with Erebonia, culminating in wars during the First Europan War, Second Europan War, War of Lorican Aggression, and in the Imperial Crisis. The Single Party State later weakened as mass protest rocked Calvard, prompting the start of the Edith Revolution, in which civilians throughout Calvard rallied to overthrow the ruling military government in 15 May 2021, abolishing the Single Party State and restoring Calvard into a more conservative government ruled by moderates. Following this event, Calvard officially normalised relations with its neighboring countries, as well as recognising the Crossbell Free State's mandate of independence.
English thrives in Calvard, and is the 3rd most spoken language as a result of Erebonian or Alterian migrants throughout the centuries. It possesses the 21st largest economy, and the forth highest quality of life in Zemuria. Calvard is a member of the International Red Cross Association.
