Stephanie Morente (born August 27, 1958) is an Alutianan politician serving as the 1st President of Alutiana since 2021, and prior to its independence she served as the Governor of Alutia Province from 2016-2021. A member of the New Alliance Party (2021-present), and previously a leading figure in Bloc Mayotte, Morente was a central figure in the secession movements of eastern Zamastan in the lead up to the Bettencourt Protests. On December 4th, Mayotte overwhelmingly voted to secede from the republic, followed on December 6th by Alutia and Aunistria. Congressional Hall attempted to block their referendums, declaring them unconstitutional, but Morente's campaigning alongside Thomas Bonhomme pushed the issue to the Supreme Court of Zamastan, which intervened and ruled in favor of the provinces in a 7-2 vote on December 12th, with Chief Justice Roosevelt Dunn citing "provincial rights and priviledge" as the reason for upholding the referendums. This resulted in the independence of Alutiana, Mayotte, and Auraine.
As the inaugural President of Alutiana, Morente has played an indispensable role in adopting and ratifying the national constitution and the federalization of its previously provincial government. She has implemented a sturdy, well-financed national government while remaining impartial in a fierce rivalry between the fractioning Bloc Mayotte and New Alliance Parties.
