Viqalka is the smallest and least populous of the eleven earldoms of Cadenza, consisting of the island of Torim Viqalka, 74 hectares (0.74 km2) in area. It is the most remote territory of Cadenza, located approximately 1,590 kilometres (860 nmi) from mainland Khade, and also the smallest, with an area of 148 hectares (1.48 km2). It has a population of 1,503. The island was officially settled in 1667, but had been used for water reprovisioning by Cadenzan and Kur'zheti sailors since the mid-1500s. Contested during the Cadenzan-Kelonnan wars, between 1672 and 1684, the island was created an earldom in 1686 as acknowledgement of its strategic importance. The title of earl, or kerep, was awarded to Callador Lokaran, the local governor, whose lineage has retained the title to the present. The current earl is Murien Lokaran. The administrative seat of the earldom is Lokar, which is home to approximately 96% of the small earldom's population.
