Kerep

A kerep is a member of the nobility of the Trellinese Empire. The rank roughly corresponds to that of earl. It is among the least common ranks in Trellin, with most of its few instances being adapted from the corresponding Hyseran title, in Ahéri, of mlaq. The most notable examples of kerepi are those of Saheri and Jajich, though the latter is more commonly known as mlaq.

The title is more common in the Trellinese protectorates of Cadenza and Kur'zhet, where most towns are governed by their own kerep from whose ranks the head of state, the beriq or beriqi (duke), is chosen. In Kur'zhet, the kerepi form the bulk of the monarchy's electorate. In Cadenza, the kerepi were traditionally the rulers of the large towns and inherited their rank. As hereditary leaders of the earldoms of Cadenza, they constitute the legislature's upper house — the Earls' Council — and serve as the electorate for the position of beriq.
