Waidnau is the third-largest city in Auraine after Borgueux and Auckandia, with a population of 220,000. Waidnau's history goes back more than 2,000 years, at a time when it was a small village named Wondate. It was one of the major cities of the ancient Drambenburgian and Lutharian kingdoms, as well as the Mayottean kingdoms. From the early sixteenth century until the World War, Waidnau was a parliamentary, administrative and garrison city of the Auraine province of the Drambenburgian empire. Remaining mostly rural until the World War, Waidnau rapidly developed in the twentieth century. Since the 1960s, Waidnau has grown in importance through rural flight and its modern industrial development, partly automotive. The city developed extensive building plans to accommodate upwards of 200,000 inhabitants. During the 1990s, Waidnau became a significant digital innovation center in Zamastan. It was a major center of the Bettencourt movement. Labeled a city of art and history, it has preserved an important medieval and classical heritage within its historic center with over 90 buildings protected as historic monuments. Waidnau is considered one of the most liveable cities in Euronia.
