Bretwalda Cenwulf (Cenwulf Wodenswyn Teorell) is the current head of state of the Confederate of Brytene, elected in 1998. Serving as Thegn of Eoferwic Moor from the age of 24, he was elected by the Witenagmot to the position of Bretwalda of Brytene at the age of 30, and has governed ever since. His tenure has been marked by the introduction of progressive liberal policies and the growth of the Confederate Brytisc Fleet, as well as an upturn in the economy thanks to a reduction on government restrictions.

Biography

Family

The Teorell dynasty is one of the leading families of the North. They own large stakes in Wernham-Hogg, and it was the Teorell family which introduced the first Brytisc public library in 1654AD. Teorell bannermen were present at the Battle of Lowencraic, although at this time they were only a minor house. Now, Teorell and Teorellsmann are common surnames throughout the North and members of the primary branches of the House are recognised in several fields of industry, politics, and entertainment.

Early Life

Born on the 19th of February, 1968, Cenwulf originally trained as a professional firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father Leofric who was a volunteer firefighter of the Eoferwic fire department. Following his father's death during a fire at the Eoferwic dockyards, however, he chose to enter politics, guided by his mother Marie D'Averc, a press advisor with experience in several domestic and international campaigns.

Political career

As Thegn

Elected as Thegn of Eoferwic Moor in 1992, he immediately set about restoring many of the public spending programmes his predecessor had cut. Investing in a solar farm to replace the aging coal plants at Highmoor kick-started the local economy and, incidentally, improved tourism to the Moors, and a global hike in coal prices meant that the district narrowly avoided fiscal disaster.

Election as King

Following the death in 1998 of the previous King, Cerdic of Wesseax, Cenwulf campaigned for the throne on the promise that he would encourage international trade and enact a range of social reforms. This met with the approval of many of the Thegns across the region, who were facing widespread civil unrest during protests against a system many people perceived to be hidebound and corrupt.

The election of a relatively unknown northerner assuaged these doubts, and within two years the positive impact of Cenwulf's liberal policies began to be made clear as international trade blossomed. Fresh oranges and dragonfruit from Cinoth were seen on the shelves of Brytene for the first time.

2005 assassination attempt

On the 24th of September 2005, assassins from the terrorist group Order of the Bahariyan Empire made an attempt on the King's life, ostensibly in revenge for alleged Brytisc involvement in the fall of the Bahariyan Caliphate and their close ties with Huda.

Two assassins, armed with handguns and grenades, rushed the podium as King Cenwulf made a speech at the Hlaford Shipyards in Whitebay. This attack cost the life of the commander of the Lantern Guard, Tadamichi Kuribayashi, but Cenwulf survived with only minor shrapnel wounds to the arm.

Career as King

Despite an increase in military spending, including the commissioning of the CFS Pelegiad, the nation's only aircraft carrier, Cenwulf's reign saw little violence up until 2015. However, beginning with Aoife Brighteye's duel with General Fujikawa of Nihon, the Brytisc Isles began to take more of an interest in international politics.

On the 5th September, 2015, Cenwulf instituted wide-ranging reforms which officially replaced many of the old political titles, including his own, and replacing the royal flag with a new flag designed for the Confederacy.

Personal life

Cenwulf Teorell is not a particularly retiring fellow. He quite publicly feasts, drinks, and makes merry. He has run to fat in his older age, but still boasts a strong figure for all that. He is known for his generosity and support of charitable causes, as well as his patronage of the television and literary industry.

He recently married Charlotte Teorell, née Norton, of the Allied Castarcian States.
