With the appearances of otherworldly portals and increasing incidents of people disappeared into liminal spaces/transitional spaces between universes during the late 2030s and early 2040s, pre-Union governments and multinational conglomerates, guilds started to dispatch exploration teams. Portals and liminal spaces were found across Asia-Pacific. Many started to claim these portals and spaces as their own and harness the potentially-infinite energies inside.

In 2043, right after independence, the Union government decided to merge all existing companies and agencies across the eastern hemisphere, centralizing them in hope to downsize all bureaucratic process and investigations to explore these portals and spaces, as well as the handling of enchanted resources and artifacts. The most recent acquisition was thee [[Fukushima Portal]], located in the town of Fukushima, in the state of Japan. The location was infamously known for its {{wp|Fukushima Nuclear Disaster|nuclear incident}} in 2011.
Although its radioactivity has fading over the decades, energies leaking from a portal inside the facility, presumably opened in 2037, made the radioactive levels increased back to dangerous levels, mutated local animals into eldritch-horror creatures, halted all explorations and investigations, which led into complete closure of the facility.
 
After the Ascionese independence in 2043, increasing demand of renewable and clean source of energy had pushed exploration proposals to the parliament. Approval, signed by the president and the leader of the parliament was obtained in December 2043. The DLA, cooperated with the [[Awakened Association]], immediately recruited awakeneds of B-rank and above. An exploration team was made, with a total of 70 rankers (40 B-ranks, 20 A-ranks, 10 S-ranks) joined the team. Army soldiers were also recruited; mostly veterans and special force soldiers. The exploration began in June 20, 2044. First perimeter of the facility was cleared in July 17, second perimeter was cleared week after, and the remaining mutated animals were cleared by early August 2044. The team entered the portal at the exact time of August 21 2044, 09:30 AM Japan time.
 
Few months later at March 13 2045, the portal changed its color to blue; previously yellow, indicating the labyrinth inside has been cleared. The exploration team came out on the same date, at 01:45 PM Japan time. There were 20 casualties, mostly from the army and the B-rank side; 12 were slightly injured, 8 heavily injured. These injuries were mostly because of the random, changing nature of the labyrinth. Also came with them were 10 people (2 japanese, 1 korean, 4 mexican, 3 caucasian) who went missing decades ago. These survivors were the only ones found alive in the portal, as others were found dead. They were taken into DLA facility in Saitama for rehabilitation. The portal was successfully acquired as assets of the DLA.
